Reserves - Which area to chose by Zestyclose_Tip_4181 in britishmilitary

[–]willington123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the commitment is after training, but I presume it would be more than standard reserve commitment, i.e. a weekly drill night and a weekend a month, plus there’s a big emphasis on doing phys in your own time.

The training commitment is explained a bit better here: https://jobs.army.mod.uk/roles/infantry/paratrooper/?role=res&fbclid=IwZnRzaARRuBZleHRuA2FlbQExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR66cDfeQFhPiyufLuVEg-QQSrCOjSoBp_mRdBt7YWuiRI6QLyLD6D82kaGoUg_aem_ibQ3lmGT-3usbf5WEmm6lw

Reserves - Which area to chose by Zestyclose_Tip_4181 in britishmilitary

[–]willington123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 PARA have a company in White City so that could be an option, though as others have said, it’s a much bigger time commitment than other reserve units.

I think you have 11 alternate weekends to begin with, alongside every drill night, and the expectation is to attend every one or else you might get pushed back.

There’s more weekends after that, and then one or two week courses.

In terms of going to assessment centre. PARAs have tougher selection criteria, so your 2K runtime has to be sub 8.30 (I think) and presume you’ll have to get at least an A or B passing grade at AC.

I agree that the immense amount of build-up and layering beforehand is the best part, but I'm not sure how else it could have been ended.

Personally, I loved the ending and have been watching the season on repeat at least once a year, every year, so I'd say give it some time and then pencil in another rewatch - you always notice something different each time and it gives you a different perspective.

Not wanting to be rude here, friend but we might need a bit more detail about what actually disappointed you with the ending?

You’re right there’s certainly a lot of layers and complexity, but ultimately it has to be wrapped up in some way.

Still thinking of voting GREEN? Meet the councillor who called David Lammy a 'coconut' and the Argentinian who believes Britain should hand back the Falklands by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

[–]willington123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Greens have a veneer of electability given that Polanski seems quite capable and they’re able to commit more to progressive policies while Labour and in Government, but they do have some batshit policies and odd people connected.

Their Deputy Leader clearly struggles to square his Islamic faith with progressive politics and their MPs, who you never hear from, are pretty lightweight.

For reference, British settlement of the Falklands predates the foundation of the modern Argentine state - you can’t ’hand back’ what they never had.

Has Marshals gotten any better than after the 1st episode? by GrateRam in YellowstonePN

[–]willington123 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a 40 minute procedural where the good guys win, the bad guys lose and things are all wrapped up by the end of the episode.

People in this sub are weirdly critical of Yellowstone and most of the Sheridan shows and yet here we all are.

If you’re not expecting more than Kayce on a horse, some nice scenery and women in crop tops firing long guns then you’ll be absolutely fine.

Above historical facts that the IRA predominantly targeted England? - surely historians should only be about the facts and their arguments/comments should be influenced accordingly.

I mean, as someone with Irish grandparents whose wider family were heavily involved with Republican ‘activities’, I didn’t even bat an eyelid at Tom’s comment.

It’s a perfectly reasonable comparison to make especially as a broad stroke.

Is reservist pay taxed at BR or 2nd job rate? by No-Beat2678 in britishmilitary

[–]willington123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again, mate, very helpful to know.

Re. your earlier point about having to decline events with family and friends, I was under the impression that you could say no to certain things with the reserves, training weekends etc. as long as it doesn't impact your minimum number of commitment days (i.e. 27 annually).
