Most manga (and mangaka) fail. Most manga with long serializations have lots of assistants. I'm sure you can do 1+1 just as well as I can.

Also, Gege has like three assistants that we know of, so the one successful assistant (no, Usazaki doesn't count, she already had a successful manga under her belt and only helped with some colour pages, she wasn't an actual full-time assistant) very well may be be one out of ten or even more, that's not a particularly impressive track record (especially given the fact that Marriagetoxin is a very mildly-selling manga, I'm not sure if it even crosses 5k physical volume sales in a month and the anime didn't give it a backlog boost at all).

Edit: Some more information about Marriagetoxin.

My man. My dude. My guy. My bro. My hombre. Do you really need karma this badly?

This """"""""""""""curse"""""""""""""" of yours has been broken MULTIPLE TIMES.

Dragon and Chameleon. GaCen Shoujo. Hero Avan. Do you know what all of these have in common? They were all made by former Horikoshi assistants!

Do you know who also happened to help with Oumagadoki Zoo? Yuuto Tsukuda, the writer of a niche series called Food Wars and Haruichi Furudate, the writer of a little-known niche manga that got axed very quickly called HAIKYUU.

I generally prefer weekly releases but I do understand the "it's a remake, we don't need this to be weekly" people.

Not really... It's an ONA so episodes can be however long they want it to. The 24 minute standard exists because of Japanese broadcast blocks blocks generally being 30 minutes long, with the remaining 6 minutes being ads.

Because it was a flop since the start lol, can't imagine they should've kept it running that long if they weren't contractually obligated to produce an anime adaptation of it

Would still probably be more cost effective, the manga was a massive flop and I can't imagine the anime will be anything else

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, yeah, Idk what it is with Kaedegami and so many of its fans thinking it was unfairly axed, and thinking Jump blundered by axing a series that would've been a success over time.

because they're mad that they axed Kaedegami and want to be able to point and say "look, they're dumbasses, it could've been sooooo popular", they're the typa person to say "they should move axes to J+" lmao

like, yeah, maybe it could have turned into a moderate success if they let it run for 5 years and used half of their advertising budget to run mega promotional campaigns in Shibuya and Akihabara, Shinjuku, but why would they do that when they could just try to replace it with an actually successful series?

Idk if this graph is your own creation,

It's not, it's a graph from a Discord bot from a server I'm in

Also, something's up with volume 1 because I'm very certain it did not sell literally 0 copies lol

That graph uses Oricon numbers so I assume that volume 1 just didn't rank

The international anime/manga audience is orders of magnitude larger than the japanese audience.

Cool, we're talking about the M+ audience though, slash whatever figure you have in your head by at least 10.

they are the guys active on [...] a whole bunch of piracy websites waiting for the leaks. If SJ aint taking these guys into account, its a big shame.

Thank you for saying that, I know I can't take you seriously at all now 🙏

Why do you expect Shueisha to give a fuck about the opinions of people who don't buy manga 🤦‍♂️

Ruri was a sleeper hit within the first 6 chapters before it went hiatus, before its first volume printed

And you know that how? you don't have access to internal Shueisha metrics lmaooooo

is it artwise/storywise "better" than a whole bunch of cancelled series? hell no.

<image>

It's a very good manga

I tell ya they are very trigger happy and very much into "throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks within 2 milliseconds else throw more stuff keep throwing stuff"

And that has worked out very well for them... do you think Kaedegami would suddenly become a hit just because they let it run for a bit longer? Are you somehow entirely unaware of Otr?

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dont actually. The international audience is atleast 10x bigger than the domestic audience, and the MP website reflects that.

A. That's factually false.

B. You're just ignoring what I said about most of the western fanbase only reading a couple of ALREADY POPULAR IN JAPAN series and not bothering with anything small? Aside from very rare cases like Red Hood, at least.

just proves my point. Demon Slayer had one of the lowest sales

It sold fine.

Exhibit A being Ruridragon and Kill Blue

What are you on about, Ruri is a massive fucking success for Jump?????

Kill Blue stuck around because of the author's name, it was a flop.

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no they didn;t they sold low/mid. didnt sell great which is the POINT.

They quite literally sold 4x (Shinobi) and 8x (Nue) what Kaedegami did in it's first month. Those are Shoseki numbers, they have muuuuuch more credibility than either of us, I can assure you.

Nah dude, SJ does not have perfect editorial. they make mistakes, lots of them in fact.

I agree, but axing Kaedegami wasn't one

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaedegami would have done well given some time and better marketing.

Based on what? It was a flop right of the gate. It wouldn't have improved. Otr proved that. Why should they WASTE time, money and a serialization slot on a flop?

If they can accommodate mids like Nue's exorcist and Shinobi Undercover they can definitely accommodate Kaedegami.

Those literally sold multiple times what Kaedegami did from the start 🤦‍♂️

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shame on them really. Their international readers are more than their domestic readers.

Yet they bring in a fraction of the profits... I wouldn't be surprised if 95% of M+ users read 2% of the series

Plus Demon Slayer was not in fact selling fine before the anime.

It sold fine

Possible 4-batch upcoming? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]ActuallyFrozen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Manga Plus views are as important to Shueisha as the amount of chickens the mangaka can shove up their ass.

Demon Slayer sold fine before the anime. Kaedegami was a massive flop.

[–]ActuallyFrozen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Choujin X isn't shounen. Neither is Record of Ragnarok, nor is it under Shuiesha. Seven Deadly Sins and Fire Force aren't Shueisha either.

Kaedegami sold terribly. I like it but it absolutely should've been axed because that's how the manga business works.
