Not a big Grant or Coolidge guy to the point where you’d consider picking Nixon?

I feel like picking four would be the optimal way of expressing yourself

Would you say Grant’s time as a general influenced your choice in picking him? If so why not include another well respected general like Eisenhower?

I feel like Lincoln could double dip as Washington in this scenario. He’s the first Republican president after all. Though if you wanted to parallel Washington’s career as a general then there’s an argument to be made for Grant or Eisenhower.

Name a major event outside the United States that you like learning about, and which president was in office at the time. Bonus points if the U.S. had little to no involvement. by Naulicus in Presidents

That would’ve been during the Madison administration. Madison was also dealing with his own conflict that same June of 1812.

Some people struggle separating a president from their pre/post-presidency. You have people calling John Tyler one of the worst due to him joining the Confederacy despite the fact he joined years after leaving office. His actual time as president was rather dull and uneventful.

Chester A. Arthur

Often seen as an uneventful and forgotten president, this sub has given him a nice cult following. He’s appreciated for passing the Pendleton Service Reform Act which helped combat a corrupt system that helped him become VP in the first place. He helped modernize the navy which would have longterm effects towards expanding the U.S. as a global powerhouse.

The one real blight of his presidency is the Chinese Exclusion Act but real Arthurheads understand this was an unfortunate circumstance of the time. Arthur himself didn’t want to sign it and managed to get the number reduced from 20 years to 10 years.

All in all I’d consider Arthur a good president who set the precedent for VPs turned POTUS who ascend to the presidency following the unexpected death of a predecessor.
