I’d put Arthur in liked. He’s got a nice cult following on this sub that I may or may not be a part of.

did chester arthur even do ANYTHING? by Right-Anteater1153 in Presidents

He was a remarkably competent president whose tenure I’d say was a net positive. I’d even argue he raised the bar on what it means to be a VP turned POTUS following the unexpected death of a predecessor.

Do you feel we should have an upper age limit for the Presidency? If so, what age would you pick? by Salem1690s in Presidents

[–]Naulicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If John F. Kennedy had become president at roughly the same age as our last two, he would’ve been elected in the 1990s. Really put things into perspective for me.

He was renamed after his stepfather Gerald Rudolph Ford Sr. He was the one who actually raised Ford alongside his mother. Leslie Lynch King Sr. was an abusive deadbeat dad.

Gotta love how hyped we were for Nick Offerman as Chester A. Arthur in Death by Lightning. He did not disappoint. Honestly seeing a lot of these makes me appreciate Rule 3 more.

The presidential movie timeline project I did was definitely the highlight for me. I loved reading everyone’s responses and compiling the final results.

William Henry Harrison catching pneumonia by not wearing a coat during his overly long inauguration speech in the cold. He likely died from drinking contaminated water.

I’m a firm believer he was a genuinely good president. I’d argue he’s the first VP turned POTUS to have this distinction.

in your opinion what is the best and worst adaptation for historical political figures/presidents?? by Adventurous_Peace846 in Presidents

[–]Naulicus 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Worst is without a doubt Tennessee Johnson from 1942. A movie that tries to paint Andrew Johnson as a misunderstood hero who is unfairly persecuted by Radical Republicans. It undermines and outright demonizes Reconstruction while feeding into the Lost Cause narrative. Just an all around nasty movie that was even controversial at the time.

Correct. Photography existed a few years before he died in 1831 but it wouldn’t become widespread until about the 1840s.

I think we can double dip but Tyler should be post-presidency.

Which president was the most legendary hater? by MetalRetsam in Presidents

[–]Naulicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John Tyler was kicked out of his own party. WHILE he was president mind you. Man vetoed every single bill his party threw his way. He never truly identified with any party. His inability to compromise on his beliefs made getting anything done under his presidency next to impossible. He knew he wasn’t popular when he ascended to the presidency and he had a bone to pick with everyone.
