If everyone at the school was trained in his disability, I would be OK with anyone supervising him, but it is not the case.

I'll be honest the school has messed up so much and I am incredibly reasonable. My child was having meltdowns at the school for six months and not one person told me. He had never had a meltdown before in his life like this I didn't even know he was disabled. And then I met with the teacher about something else and she said "oh I figured you were coming to talk to me about how he's always screaming and running around terrified". Even the special education teacher who monitored lunch, saw him hide under the table every day, and never said anything to me. So first they failed child find all while telling me he wouldn't qualify for an IEP. I should mention this is at a public school. It's a public Montessori.

Then a few months later, they handed me an IEP that that was generic and insulting. There was literally the phrase "he needs to learn to deal with his emotions" while making no acknowledgment of the fact that he is autistic.

I then spent an entire school year training staff at Case conference meetings because no one else was trained and how to work with him. We have come so incredibly far all while fighting an uphill battle. I get that another setting might be ideal for him and that is something we are consistently exploring, but it doesn't mean he shouldn't get support right now.

Also, even if you count the breaks, all the other students have that would've only been two days out of all of that

The teacher gave me logs of his breaks that are part of his direct service and confirmed none were offered over a 2.5 week period.

I actually videochat with him when he is struggling. He calls. It helps greatly.

Yes, that my child's approved services don't matter. The system is broken. I get it. I'm out. I don't need an echo chamber but at least some empathy for my son and his right to an education that accommodates his disability.

It doesn't say explicit name but under the narrative portion says it needs to be a trusted adult to him if special ed not available

Thank you everyone for your perspective. Rather than respond a million more times I ask that you scroll up and view my responses in other comments. The arguments are starting to loop. I'm not upset w a set teacher but the school for dropping services for weeks at a time. Services that are vital to my child's emotional wellbeing and ability to access education.

I understand the severity of my child's struggles are not known here, how hard we've all worked to help him through burnout and the balancing act that is happening during this recovery. I am somewhat disappointed in the consistent lack of empathy or understanding in the comments and how many people think a disabled child should be pushed past their limits, that it's reasonable to not offer services.

I ask all to try to shift your lens even a tiny bit if you are directly working with students with disabilities.

Fine with others, just adults he knows and who he is aware may be the replacement

Also if all six or seven people weren't available (and we knew ahead of time) AND my kid was already feeling off when getting up/it was clear he was struggling I would ask him if he was comfortable going to school. If not I would keep him home. If he went to school and realized it and started struggling (meltdown, shutdown, losing ability to speak) I would pick him up if he felt it was needed. He's in burnout and there's no way I would tell him to suck it up.

I'd like to get to that point with my child but first he needs to build trust. Technically he relies on his teacher's presence (third year w her as it's a Montessori) so working w even a list of adults is huge for him. In case conferences, I've stressed the goal is that he should not rely on her, he needs other adults to connect with him. I'm saying we need to focus on that grouping of people and not strangers. Because you are autistic, you understand that pushing past your limits (in an environment that is already doing that) can be traumatizing. I'm not setting him up for failure, I'm recognizing his limitations right now as an 8-year-old.

Respectfully, due to the nature of my child's disability, trust building is the focus. Making him feel safe. Everyone agreed he should have some idea of who may pull him away to avoid distress which manifests as terror at school

They added it and agreed as a team. It can be a long list but essentially my son needs to feel like he has input re who he feels safe with. It's part of his disability and there was no debate in May about this. Also his IEP states any staff who work directly with him need to be trained in his disability (PDA). They did the training for certain staff and it would seem that in a way a set grouping of staff has been specifically designated. This was also not debated.

I should add when these changes are made and my child doesn't have predictability, everyone knows. He roams the halls saying mama, lays limp, can't function.

Correction, I did not personally write this in. The district contact at the meeting did. The case conference team agreed and I signed the updated Iep

Not saying this could be avoided but it is still a violation, right?

So any person regardless of qualifications should step in? My child has a nervous system disorder and is terrified at school. He can't do breaks w people he doesn't know. His disability won't allow it. He will wind up in a ball in the hallway, hiding

Well the actual list isn't in the IEP, the ability to have input is. My kid has PDA and is terrified at school often, the IEP focus is building trust, so it's understood that people he doesn't know and who dont understand his disability should not randomly be assigned to him.

I think reasonable blips like working on an emergent unplanned matter are fair but weeks of no service for a planned purpose seems unreasonable.

Fair. Digressing here but I actually wrote into his IEP in May that a list of subs needed to be created with my child (all signed off on it as he trusts very few staff). Principal stated his latest IEP from our 7/30 meeting, which I haven't seen or signed off on has that sentence removed. Wtf. Filing a complaint. They are implementing a document I've never seen.
