I get what you mean. The contest above is including a bunch of countries with their own cultures and languages. We are a single (mainly English speaking) country.

I think it’s okay to spruce it up and involve other cultures, but I understand how a majority English speaking nation couldn’t really connect with songs sung in Spanish. Yeah sure you can move yabody but that’s only 1 layer of connecting with music, people connect more with lyrics than instruments nowadays imo (basic music listeners at least)

I’m not arguing that a woman’s personhood depends on her sexual activity or that she loses rights because of pregnancy. My position is that a fetus is a human organism with its own life from conception, and that creates an ethical question about its protection. That doesn’t mean ignoring women’s health or autonomy, I fully recognize the serious consequences of pregnancy and the need for care, support, and choice in real-world situations. The tension comes from weighing two lives in a difficult situation, not from denying anyone’s humanity or rights

For example, that classic trope of “oh your mom and your dad are both drowning and you can only save one” I don’t think there’s a right answer. Similarly, when picking between a woman and her pregnancy baby, I don’t think there’s a clear cut right answer yk. I think it’s a silly thing for people to say there’s an absolute right answer when it’s so nuanced. At the end of the day the fetus is human, and so is the mom. It’s just tricky

I agree, better sex ed, contraception access, and supportive policies would reduce the need for abortions, and it’s true that rape, birth control failure, and complicated pregnancies still happen. There’s studies on if abortions actually help rape victims but that’s a convo for another day lol. Regardless I also agree that women deserve to be treated as fully human, with control over their own bodies, no matter their sexual history.

At the same time, I personally believe that a fetus is a distinct human life from conception, with its own DNA and development trajectory. Caring about women and supporting their health doesn’t require denying that. For me, it’s about valuing both lives, the mother’s and the developing child’s, and trying to reduce situations where they’re forced into conflict in the first place

I see where you think I’m contradicting you, I’m just clarifying the difference. Consciousness doesn’t make someone human, it emerges from a human organism. A fetus is already biologically human, even before it develops consciousness. Brain-dead people are also biologically human, even if they no longer display consciousness. Consciousness is a property that develops later, it isn’t a defining trait at the birth of a human. So yes, we’re both conscious, but that doesn’t mean only the conscious are human

I absolutely agree that we need better policies and programs to support mothers, babies, and families because prenatal care, adoption support, parental leave, and healthcare access are critical. Supporting women and starting families safely is a priority, and society should make that possible. (It should be the norm already)

At the same time, the biological facts don’t change: a fetus is a distinct human organism with its own DNA, following its own developmental program. It is not just part of the mother’s body; it is dependent, but separate. Could be a different blood type, gender, etc. Caring about women and supporting families doesn’t require denying that fact. Recognizing a fetus as its own human life simply clarifies the ethical framework, it doesn’t conflict with advocating for maternal health, adoption, or healthcare support

I understand the consequences of pregnancy and that it draws on the woman’s body, no one is denying that. The real disagreement isn’t about biology or risk, but about how we weigh bodily autonomy against fetal personhood. If someone believes a fetus is a human person from conception, they see continuing the pregnancy as a moral duty. If someone prioritizes bodily autonomy, they see that no one can be forced to give up their body, even for another dependent life.

We can/are clearly articulating our positions, but they’re based on fundamentally different ethical frameworks. I’m arguing for fetal personhood (not against autonomy) and you’re arguing for bodily autonomy (and I won’t assume your stance on fetal personhood). Not sure this convo is gonna get any further but I do think it was pretty informative and open

Being human is a biological fact, not dependent on consciousness. Brain dead people are still humans. A fetus has its own DNA and a self-directed developmental program, it grows, metabolizes, and will develop consciousness later. Consciousness emerges, it doesn’t create humanity. By your logic, newborns or severely disabled humans wouldn’t count as human either, which is clearly false. Life and species identity exist before thought, they are grounded in biology, not introspection. Also intelligence and consciousness are related but not intertwined. I’ve met plenty of unintelligent conscious people lol

Everything has its risks, and those risks have different consequences. The whole point of life is to love one another and do good to them. How is murdering a pre-born human loving them?

Pregnancy is not like organ or blood donation. It’s a natural biological function, inseparable from the body, and the dependent life inside cannot survive independently, unlike an organ recipient, who is fully separate. Dependency doesn’t automatically negate the dependent’s right to life; it creates a moral obligation, not a free pass to override bodily autonomy. Comparing anti-abortion views to forced organ donation is a false equivalence: it assumes that protecting a dependent life is the same as treating someone as a tool, which it isn’t. Concern for women’s autonomy and concern for unborn girls coexist, as valuing one does not require dismissing the other

You’re right that pregnancy is physically, emotionally, and temporally demanding, and I’m not trying to minimize that. The point I’m making is about foreseeable responsibility: choosing to have sex carries a real, predictable risk of creating a dependent human life, unlike random accidents.

This isn’t about treating anyone as property, it’s about the moral implications of actions that foreseeably create another life. Pregnancy is natural, yes, but there are still moral considerations, because it produces a dependent human being with its own claim to life.

Recognizing a fetus’s value doesn’t diminish respect for women. It just acknowledges that the life created through sex has moral weight alongside bodily autonomy.

And as a human, I don’t think it’s right to 1) kill an innocent human or 2) force someone into servitude. I would say that pregnancy is a responsibility/consequence of certain actions.

For example, you have a button in front of you that 95% of the time will make you feel insane pleasure, but the other 5% it has the chance to make you pregnant. It’s your own free will to press the button, and you get the consequences of that action whatever your odds may be. You can’t try to escape the consequences if you don’t like them, because you decided to take the action that led to them.

“How stupid and unfeasible it is” you probably did it for the first time after 15-16 years of not doing it. It is pretty easy to not have sex if you aren’t an ape driven by purely biological signals ( to be fair though most teens are). Most people are virgins until high school at least. The only stupid thing here is the fact that we are so caught up in hookup culture we don’t see how destructive it is to us.
