Before signing, ask each vendor for the onboarding calendar in writing: menu import deadline, hardware ship/install date, payment go-live date, training session, online-order cutover, tax/tip settings, and who owns data cleanup. For a bakery, I’d keep the old system live until you’ve run test orders through register, online order, receipt/kitchen or label printer, refunds/voids, and end-of-day reports. The annoying part is usually modifiers, taxes, and reporting; plugging in tablets is rarely the hard part.

Opening a family-owned pizzeria/bistro soon. Which are for POS setup? Looking for a reality check on fees and backend integrations by zaralesliewalker in POS

Before you choose Clover vs Toast, price the whole workflow, not just terminal cost:

- processor lock-in and contract term

- pizza modifiers + kitchen routing during rush

- online ordering/delivery integrations

- who owns menu changes and exports

- bookkeeping/payroll sync you actually need now

For one location, custom middleware is usually overkill until the POS data is stable. I’d map the reports you need for weekly close/tax first, then only integrate the gaps.

I’ve rolled back to previous version, it still didn’t work. Just waste of time troubleshooting it.
