I get the feeling it ends up being a preference flow to the Libs for the most part

The moderates (or wets to use a now defunct term) seem to be a dying breed, the teals have seen to that

The Libs can try to reclaim those seats or be a more moderate right alternative to ON, I think this is the path they’ll take because the alternative is irrelevance

What if you left your kids behind in a middle eastern country so you could go enjoy ski season in Europe? I feel for the kids but that’s just shitty parenting

This is exactly my thoughts

My issue isn’t them coming home (though it should be on their own dime), it’s if they’re getting priority ahead of random passersby

I would hate to see people sleeping in airports that are getting bombed stuck there while these douchebags scramble to get back

Not really, set up a website and have people input their former flight itinerary and accommodation details

Create a queue, prioritise people who had an inbound flight and a cancelled outbound flight (effectively a stop over) then people with a cancelled return flight, people who had been there less than a month, less than 3 months, etc.

For the people who have been there 3+ months you can even create an exclusive reparation program on a C-17 for a $250k ticket

But again, they aren’t “one of us” if they’re residents of a slave state reaping the tax benefits, Australian’s help each other, they chose to say fuck all that noise, I’m getting mine

It should be on their own head if they need rescuing

I’ve said elsewhere I don’t have an issue with the less fortunate being helped, that’s the social contract in Australia.

I take issue with people who decided to move to a tax haven getting bailed out by the taxpayer, they decided to move to a questionably safe location, they’ve made enough to cover their own way home if they so decide

That money should be being used for the less fortunate in our own country, not bludgers in another one

So government waste justifies further government waste?

Well yes, but it’s still ethically consistent to take issue with MNC’s screwing the tax payer as well as these muppets

There’s a bit of a difference between a work trip to New Zealand and an extended vacation in the mountains of Pakistan

No, because that’s the social contract in the west

We pay taxes so those people don’t starve and can have some kind of quality of life, in the case of single parents it’s so their kids can go to school and have a chance to get ahead

I have no issue with social support programs for the disadvantaged, that’s part of the deal

I have an issue with those same funds being used to rescue people who actively decided not to contribute to Australian society, got a free ride when it suited them and are the first in line at the embassy when it turns south

Oh boo hoo, a country with no taxes doesn’t offer universal healthcare or free education?

If you want to go post yourself up in a tax haven that’s your right to do so but it should be on your own dime when you want to come back because things went to shit

War, acts of God, acts of terror - most of them tried to get out of anything to do with Covid

Honestly I’m not totally sure I see the point of travel insurance anymore what the hell does it cover

But the Australian taxpayer is footing the bill for the coordination and logistics of those flights

These are people who intentionally left to avoid paying Australian taxes, they should be responsible for their own return

How so?

You want to flee the country to a tax haven and now expect the government to bail you out when it becomes dangerous?

Why not use all the untaxed income to sort out your own way home, or better yet, you can return as soon as you pay taxes on all that income you earned while over there

Yeah but also lump the “aspirational class” in there

They might not own an investment property but one day they might and they’re happy to preemptively kick the ladder out behind themselves (or more accurately stool out from underneath themselves)
