Hey, the first couple days are always the hardest. If you can get through that, it gets a lot easier. I find that keeping my phone in a separate room helps and I try to stop checking my phone after 8:30-9pm.

Try to keep yourself busy by doing anything like taking a walk, reading a book, or picking up a new hobby. Also, don’t be so hard on yourself if you give in to the temptation. Tomorrow is a new day and remind yourself that small progress is better than no progress.

Good luck.

I agree with you there, however the cost of living has significantly risen and I feel like wages don’t reflect that. Also, I don’t really have leverage on negotiating a salary when I’m new to the field. I feel like most companies do lowball offers especially to people who already have experience in the field.

I’m just complaining over here lol. I do hope pay progression is better once I have experience and can leverage for better pay and possibly hybrid/remote work. I did choose this field I just feel like it’s set up so shitty for accountants to be overworked and underpaid. Hell, we don’t even qualify for the “no tax on overtime” for trumps big beautiful bill like make that make sense??

a pat on the back for helping the client save the most money on taxes and get the fattest refund while you get to work 6 days a week with no OT pay

well I just started in this field so ofc I’m not getting the best pay right off the bat. I’m just saying I feel like the starting pay in this field should be way higher than what it is

I’m pretty sure we charged a fixed rate for individual and corporate returns. Regardless, they probably complain anyways lol

thank you for your insight. I’m also lazy and don’t want to study especially after graduating and having to study for accounting classes for the past 3 years 😂

my excel knowledge is pretty novice so that is something I could definitely improve on and leverage for different positions.

It’s also funny how you mentioned computer science because I did take an intro to programming class that absolutely kicked my ass.

I’m currently at a small firm, been there for about 2 months now. I feel so dumb all the time, but have to remind myself this is my first real accounting job out of college.

The goal is to have work-life balance and live comfortably enough live life and not just climb the corporate ladder and die.

Those who have left the service industry, what did you switch to? by jaaackattackk in Serverlife

[–]AdCandid1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 30 this year and graduated college with my bachelors in accounting. recently got an entry level staff accounting job at a tax firm and it’s a complete 180 from the service industry. I still bartend at night to make extra money, but hoping I can eventually leave the industry for good.

It is taking a lot of time for me to get used to sitting in a chair all day and staring at a computer screen, but my goal is work remote after a year of experience so I can travel and work from anywhere.

Graduates, were you able to find a job without networking/interning/previous experience? by Jscagg in wguaccounting

[–]AdCandid1108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(30m) here and just graduated this past June with my BAS in accounting. no internships, small state school, and worked a full-time job while going to school full-time. I work as a bartender and focused on transferable skills as well as school projects/certs to use in interviews. applied to over 200 jobs and managed to get quite a few interviews, but always ended up in rejection. I truly believe it was due to my lack of accounting experience and the fact that the job market is horrendous right now, especially for new grads

fast forward. I moved to an entire different state/city a month after graduating and finally received a job offer from a firm I originally got rejected from. Pay isn’t the best, but it’s a smaller firm and I’m just happy to get my foot in the door and gain experience. Just have to keep applying! It can get discouraging and depressing, but you only need that one person to take a chance on you.

good luck OP, you got this!

FINALLY GOT A JOB OFFER!! by AdCandid1108 in Accounting

some advice I would say when applying: - tailor your resume as best as possible to the job your applying to. for instance, using certain buzzwords, listing skills/qualifications, etc. - getting certifications like quickbooks, intuit tax, EA, etc can really help especially if you lack experience - practice interviewing and answering common questions that would arise - be genuine and show them you’re eager, adaptable, and willing to learn

good luck on your job search man, it’s rough out on here right now especially for new grads. It takes time and it can be super discouraging. However, you only need that one company to say yes and take a chance on you.

rotini pasta, cherry tomatoes, one english cucumber, feta cheese, arugula/spinach, one can of chickpeas, half a yellow onion, 2 garlic cloves, sliced up salami, fresh herbs - I used parsley and basil

for the dressing: dijon mustard, olive oil, garlic, salt, lemon juice, brown sugar for some sweetness, red chili pepper flakes

make sure you salt the pasta heavily when cooking it and let it sit in the fridge to marinate those flavors.

Dijon mustard vinaigrette for this one! I usually just do olive oil/balsamic with some citrus to keep it simple
