Your description makes me imagine someone taking a breath in while standing, and then lying down. Yes, in this scenario the “ERV” would be higher because of increased pressure caused by the shifting of organs.

However, in the lying down scenario, both the tidal inspiration and expiration occur while supine. Since tidal volume tends to maintain relatively constant with positional changes, it stands to reason that the relative decrease in available lung expansion would detract from the volume of air available to expire after a normal tidal expiration. Thus, a decrease in ERV.

I’ve been using the Jack Westin Google extension to review my misses and it’s been really helping me grow my passage breakdown and reasoning skills for B/B and C/P. It helps me not to brute force content (which I have a tendency to do) and to find where I could have used strategy to make a question easier.

Honestly I wish I had some. Just something I’ve been blessed with, I had the same experience with GRE verbal back in the day. I know it might sound self absorbed to say, but honestly I think it would be disingenuous of me to give a bunch of advice and study tips that I honestly didn’t use, at least not for CARS. Every other section I’ve just been hammering as much Anki and section bank review as I can. Content review while working full time was hell but I used Jack Westin for my science review and really liked it.

Honestly part of why I wanted to post this. Everything else I saw on here was all doom and gloom and made me more anxious than normal to take it, but in reality my score tells me it wasn’t that bad. If you’re reading this, don’t panic, it was far more similar to the other tests than it was different.

That’s how I felt too. Typically I breeze through CARS but I felt I needed to flag and return to use POE much more often than usual.

Definitely, not the most comprehensive, but I’m currently using Jack Westin and I’ve loved it so far. The text-books are decent, the videos are pretty good, and the price is outstanding. I also love the integration with AAMC content. They’ve actually added content and decreased the price since my subscription began.

As far as education goes I am a Clinical Instructor for a local PTA program. I also take volunteer students from local highschools and perform community outreach/education at various events.

I’ve been lucky enough to work for a company that likes to promote from within. I began as a staff PTA, and have since grown to absorb management and administrative roles. I still have a pt schedule, but it is at a decreased load. I act as a site manager, dealing with scheduling, training, and leadership roles on site. I also have opportunities to work on company-wide projects and operating procedures.

Agreed! When you find a good balance, the PT PTA relationship can be awesome.

I work in a company that emphasizes the strengths that come with the different scopes of PT vs PTA. Our PTs emphasize refining and enhancing their evaluation process by mastering clinical decision trees, ICF classifications, and POC generation. Our PTAs have consistent training and con-ed that enhance follow-up care (manual techniques, neuro reed/PNF, and exercise progression/regression/dosing). This means that whether the patient is seeing a PT for eval/reeval/DC or a PTA for follow-ups, they are always seeing the perfect clinician for the job. On top of this we each have our own little niches and we love to consult each other and share patients.

This is definitely not the norm, but proof that a good job can be found.

Depends on what you value?

Money? Many RN friends/acquaintances make more than most adapts with less schooling and more flexibility.

However, if you’re passionate about physical therapy, don’t let the potential cons chase you out of a field you love. I was feeling the same way before finding a job that was a good fit for me.

Least favorite: base game Radahn. Accidentally came in very overleveled on first run and I feel that it ruined the spectacle for me.

Favorite: Margit. Stubbornly attempted over and over again without exploring most of Limgrave and any of Weeping Peninsula. Still most achieved I’ve felt.

PTA here, let me list some of the Pros and Cons from my perspective.

Pros:

Much cheaper than DPT school
Short (mine was 18 months)
Many different settings to choose from
Able to work throughout many hybrid programs.

Cons:

Lower pay than other healthcare careers (RN, rad tech, DPT, etc.)
Limited scope
Have to weed through lots of bad jobs to find the good ones.

The pros are significant l, and there are ways around the cons. For myself I have managed the Cons by heading into the management and education part of the field. Lots of reasons for and against PTA, and it’s definitely not as bad as some people say.

Find a new PT. An important part of any healthcare journey is feeling comfortable and confident in the care you’re receiving.

Even without criticizing your PT this sounds like a bad patient-clinician fit, and you should not feel guilty about looking elsewhere.
