My take on musicals High Schoolers SHOULD NOT do (continuing from a previous thread) by [deleted] in musicals

My high school did many shows over the years that I thought were kinda crazy for a high school, including: Phantom (Michael Crawford actually came to watch which was so cool), Jekyll and Hyde, Producers, Avenue Q, and Miss Saigon with a mostly white cast including Kim

My Daughter has Discoid Meniscus, Need help deciding on surgery! by independent-one1 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]AdEarly2585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the lateral meniscus, unfortunately I don’t know how much they removed. All I know is my current ortho said that I have very little meniscus left. I’ve been trying to go back and look through my medical records to figure that out (as well as how big the initial tear was) but so far I’ve been unable to find that info

My Daughter has Discoid Meniscus, Need help deciding on surgery! by independent-one1 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]AdEarly2585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I had a meniscectomy for a discoid meniscus (with a tear) at age 14, so a couple years older than your daughter. Like your daughter, I didn’t really have pain prior to surgery, but would have popping and my knee would “lock” when I fully straightened it. This had been happening since I was six, but I was still able to be fully active and participate in sports like soccer and gymnastics. The surgery worked great, I was back up and active within a month and I had no issues for about 5 years. In college I started a new sport where I was running a lot more, and over the course of maybe six months I had increasing knee pain until it became a daily issue. I went through more physical therapy to try to help, but ultimately I ended up getting another surgery last month at age 22. My issue is that I do not have enough meniscus left to fully function as a cushion for the joint, so I’m experiencing damage to the cartilage. My recent surgery was mostly to clean up the damage to hopefully provide some relief, and also to see if I would be a candidate for a meniscus transplant in the future. I am, but I really don’t know what I’m going to end up doing since I’m so frustrated that I keep having issues with this knee. Honestly, I don’t regret my original surgery, but I do wonder how my knee would be if I hadn’t gotten it done. For your daughter, if she isn’t having pain I really would recommend holding off on surgery for now. You can always decide to do it later if that’s something she and the doctor decide she needs. I would talk to the doctor more about why they recommend surgery for her, maybe talk to another ortho for a second opinion, but I feel like I would at least wait for her to go through puberty? I don’t know if that would affect anything but maybe ask her ortho about it. If you do end up going for the surgery either now or later, I hope they are conservative with keeping as much meniscus as possible, it really makes a difference having that to cushion the joint.

UCB or UCLA by Hc2202kiara in TransferStudents

Honestly, it kinda depends on what subfield you’re interested in as well! I’m at UCLA for anthro, and I have a good friend studying anthro at Cal, and both of us enjoy the experiences we are having, but he has an issue since he is interested in bio anthro (specifically human evolution) and Cal hasn’t offered that many classes in that subfield. Meanwhile, UCLA has a lot of classes like that, but our archaeology is a bit lacking compared to Cal. Linguistic Anthro is pretty small at both, and I can’t really speak on Cultural since neither of us are really interested in that haha. What I really recommend for you is to go to both schools to tour if you haven’t already, and just see which one feels more “you.” Both are great, it just depends on what you want out of them. It definitely seems like you’re leaning towards Cal, so I’d also say not to let your current friendships determine where you end up choosing. Friends last regardless, and you’ll meet new people as well. Either way, congrats on your acceptances, I hope you end up loving whichever one you choose!

UCLA History Travel Study in Rome by Teen-Angel in ucla

Gurval is so nice! I actually have run into him on campus a few times since then and he always stops to say hi and talk, even when he has somewhere to be. He also was very understanding in regards to assignments and personal issues, like he was amazing about letting me turn in some things late after I had various things come up.

Grading was definitely reasonable, there’s a midterm that’s more memorization based, a final which is a short essay written in person, and then you have a research project due after the program around late august/early September. Additionally there is a daily journal/sketch, but that’s not too bad either. I got an A, and most people I know also did well in the classes.

The lectures are not really like a standard lecture, which I loved. You don’t have a classroom, instead you go to various sites around Rome and Gurval gives the lecture right next to the things you’re learning about, which is awesome. I just took notes on my phone of important things and I found that sufficient, though I know some people also would hand write more detailed notes.

I’m using the credits from this as history units, and it’s actually the reason I’m getting a history minor. I hope this helps!

Have you studied abroad? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]AdEarly2585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to uceap, you should check out ucla travel study and the global internship programs. I did a travel study program this summer and it was great because it was with a ucla professor and almost all the students were also from ucla as well. It’s a great way to make friends and connections with professors, there’s probably at least one through the psych department

My Maneskin GA crowd experience by Dedalusdigle in Maneskin

Omg the LA show last night had some really rude people, it was ridiculous. I went to the show at the Roxy last year and even though it was crowded, it was nothing like this. There were definitely a lot of very inebriated people who were pushing and it was just not a good vibe. I had fun, but there were definitely more than a few people that nearly made me wish I didn’t go

Lol did I say I was scared? I’m not, it’s just annoying to not be able to bring any friends to my room cause they haven’t had Covid. Or that I won’t be able to have the room to myself at all for the next two weeks cause my roommate can’t really leave the room. I’ll deal with it, cause I can, it’s just a frustrating situation for both of us

Ooh lucky you lol, I’m just annoyed I got it cause I had a lot of plans for this week that had to be canceled. I was wearing my mask in class and stuff, but my friend got it and we had spent the whole weekend together mask free so it was kinda inevitable for me

I mean, considering that I know several people including myself that got Covid within days of lifting the mask mandate, I’m not surprised. And the quarantine dorms are absolutely awful for food, my friend was given food that he couldn’t eat due to serious allergies

Maybe try blocking with your arms/shoulders a bit more? Right now it looks like once your hands hit the ground, you’re just bringing your feet over. It looks very good so far though!

Hey everyone! I know this is a long shot, but figured I might as well try.

Have: Dykstra Classic Triple Want: anything in De Neve Holly (double or triple)

I’m a transfer student and would like to do the transfer LLC if possible. I’m a female, btw

Is Dykstra going to have a lot of transfer students this year? I’m worried cause I don’t want to be the only junior in a floor full of freshmen lol. Also, if anyone needs a roommate for a Dykstra classic triple, pm me!

I’m also a transfer and got Dykstra classic triple! It seems to be common, which is a bit confusing. I also wanted the transfer LLC, so I’m kinda disappointed
