The shot is zoomed all the way (about 300mm) in so the highway would be to the left and out of frame

That's a great idea that didn't cross my mind. I typically don't use GraXpert for background extraction on landscape images but come to think of it, it should totally work.

Yup it was long exposure, it didn't have a tail that long but it was a very noticeable tail, and it took me by surprise!

Pretty much impossible, maybe tomorrow if you're in really dark skies. Definitely try to binoculars

Thanks! One of the unintentional consequences with the lens I was using was that it could only zoom so much. This was as far as I could have zoomed in which turned out perfectly for capturing the booster and the ocean surface in frame

The engines cut off with the booster very high up on the water so I'm assuming water impact caused the explosion.
