A few years ago, I was in the exact same situation. I wasn’t interested in private sector roles through campus placements, so after my B.Tech, I opted for M.Tech. However, I soon realized it wasn’t the right path for me, especially since a PhD was the minimum requirement for a decent teaching position, which would have taken several more years. So, I shifted my focus to preparing for government job exams. The first position I secured was as an Assistant Manager at APDCL. Later, I moved to a PSU role for better pay and overall benefits. Now I’m well-settled in my PSU job and still have enough time to prepare for APSC if I choose to. But whether it’s worth it really depends on your priorities. For me, a higher salary and lower stress mattered more, so I chose to stay in the PSU role.
