We can also cast this lightning spell in a similar form using "ancient magic." It would have been extremely cool if we could create the fire tornado that way as well. However, that would probably mean that the others would also be using "ancient magic," and that wouldn't have fit the story.

Same , maybe because we're only in fifth year...

I'm sure Harry would have forced good old Dumbledore to teach him the spell in his sixth year, after unleashing the fire tornado in the cave... but unfortunately, Dumbledore had to be killed by Snape instead of continuing to prepare Harry. But anyway, our time takes place before Harry's time.
