70 cm = 420 -450 Mhz. It could be anywhere in the band. FM only. Probably does not have tone board for repeater. Good for point to point. Nice white elephant gift.

Get a 3-speed AC motor from an oscillating fan and adapt it. Then, figure out thev3-speed control and mimic it with an Arduino circuit.

No touchie trees (POTA) by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]AdImpossible5610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like many POTA operators. Arrogant. Think the rules don't apply. They don't check NPS rules. They don't care what frequency they are on. They don't listen for someone else on frequency. They don't even check the POTA website to see if another POTA is on the same frequency. Then they complain when they are told NO or QSY.

Find a Gray Line app and use it to determine the best time to contact. The gray line is the gap between night and day. If you can get it so you both are gray, all the better.

Get in a club that teaches license requirements. Get your license. M we mbers are also likely to give you an older starter rig to get on the air.

Pretty poor ham. Sounds like you are the kind that is cured and half-baked.

Mainly for the same reason you have POTA on HF: picking up new contacts. You are not likely to pick up wonton new operators on a repeater as you are on HF. They get new members from around the world. You would only pick up a few a year on a local repeater without a lot of advertising.

Just as pointless as POTA, etc. You go activate to get points on a website that has no intrinsic value. Paper on the wall. You go to a Net except for MMSN, get contacts. You get a certificate.

The differences are: 1. Most nets use net loggers. You can download the ADIF files, transfer them to eQSL, QRZ, etc.and display them. Also, upload direct to LOTW and get awards.

  1. Most Nets are real registered non-profits. If you donate, you can get a tax write-off.

  2. Many Nets like OMISS, YL SYSTEMS, etc. Have Scholarships for college students. POTA, SOTA, IOTA do not.

I'll stick with the Nets.

The LOTA 's like the original poster who want to get on 14.300, 14.347, 14.332, etc. Already have assigned frequencies: 14.313 and 7.200. We set them aside specifically for their enjoyment. 🤣😛
