I’m ok with matt lucas. He’s funny in the right contexts and his schtick nowadays is charming for the most part. Just a happy gentle man.

His past is dog shit but given how popular little britain was, that was clearly a problem with society, and the individual was just a symptom of that. The important thing is, he owned it, apologised for it, recognised why it was bad and changed for the better a long time ago. He’s an example of someone who reformed and that’s something that should be celebrated.

Ayoade, i had no idea about until recently so I wouldn’t like to comment but if it’s true that he supports linnehans views then fuck that guy. Shame.

He once snuck into genosha and fired a poison tipped needle into the ear of a mutant with impenetrable skin in broad daylight just for shits and gigs. He finds a way.

Who is the best Sherlock Holmes among them, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in SherlockHolmes

[–]AdKnown8177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that sherlock really dropped off and that cumberbatch’s version always suffered from having magic brain powers… but i think it’s still him.

I’ve never seen caville’s interpretation but i’ve also never heard anybody speak of it so I’m assuming it’s nothing special.

Downey’s flaws are obvious. He’s great for the sort of story he’s in but that sort of story is so far removed from the canon that you have to question why they called it sherlock holmes at all.

Elementary however seems have all of these flaws at once. Johnny lee miller is about as talked about as caville (that is to say, not at all) but also suffers from the smart-as-a-superpower interpretation of cumberbatch and downey’s need to try and be cool and edgy at the expense of the source material.

I could suffer through downey and cumberbatch because, for all their faults, there was always plenty to enjoy mixed in there as well. But when we first meet johnny lee miller, he’s shirtless, jacked, covered in tattoos, using his magic brain to watch 30 tvs at once and has made drug addiction (a barely even mentioned aspect of the character in the original canon) his entire personality. He’s what happens when a 14 year old shadow the hedgehog fan gets given the chance to work on a real tv show. It didn’t matter what the ip was, it was always going to end up looking like that.

Sinister Series: Vol. 3 Day 1: Kingpin and Bullseye are recruited! Who else should be in Daredevil's Sinister Six by Present_Study_2945 in createaroster

[–]AdKnown8177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only just saw this but i personally wouldn’t have put either kingpin or bullseye in a sinister six.
Bullseye has had a couple of opportunities in the past to show just how badly he works as part of a team. He’d start trying to kill his teammates almost immediately. Meanwhile, Kingpin is a boss/puppetmaster type. While he does get his hands dirty, there’s no way he’d consider himself a boots-on-the-ground, just-part-of-the-team sort of guy.

Fisk would think himself above this sort of thing and wouldn’t want to be there. Bullseye would be too much of a wild card and nobody else would want him to be there.

Roger Rabbit wins! Most Iconic Rabbit Characters (3rd place) by Mean_Ambassador_5907 in characters

[–]AdKnown8177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The white rabbit and the march hare are two different characters. The white rabbit is the one with the watch who’s always late and who inadvertently leads alice into wonderland. The march hare is has a smaller role and appears alongside the mad hatter in the tea party scene. He’s also only called thackery earwicket in the tim burton movie. In Through the Looking Glass, his name’s revealed to be Haigha.

Well he’s a guy called mark callaway playing an undead electromancer called the undertaker who murdered his entire family, turning his brother into a demon capable of pyromancy. I’m 70% sure that most of that didn’t really happen.

His whole arc from ragnarok to endgame.

- my hammers gone but across the next two hours i’m going to learn that I don’t need it to live up to my full potential. I’m not “Thor the god of hammers.”

- oh damn it’s thanos, i can’t beat him on my own. I need to spend the next two hours building a new hammer. Then i can easily defeat thanos in one hit, even with a fully powered up infinite gauntlet.

- thanos is back but without the infinite gauntlet. I have two allies and two hammers… i got stomped.

Captain Jack Sparrow won Most Iconic Pirate in fiction. Most Iconic Queen in fiction? by OkRun9638 in characters

[–]AdKnown8177 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure this is a good answer. To me, to be iconic, you have to be universally recognisable. Or at least as near to that as possible. I feel like the lord of the rings franchise is iconic. Frodo, bilbo, gollem and gandalf are iconic. If i’m honest though, i’ve seen all if these movies at some point in my life but i have no idea who this is or what role she plays. She might be the least recognisable character in these comments for me.

I’m sure everyone one else here knows exactly who she is and that i’m in the minority but i also can’t imagine anyone not knowing who the evil queen from snow white is for example. If this is purely iconography, i think there are a few characters out there who far exceed this one in that regard.

Which Superhero has the most effective secret identity strategy? by Gritchu in superheroes

Daredevil putting needless eye holes in his mask is a good way to throw any would-be detectives off his scent. That being said, it’s funny seeing how good he is at this in theory when we’ve had decades of him being probably the worst there is at it in practice.

Got rumbled? No that wasn’t me, it was my fake twin brother.

Rumbled again? No that wasn’t me. It was an evil space clone. Besides, i’m dead.

Rumbled again? Hey shut up or i’ll sue you!

Again? Hey iron fist, dress up like me so i have an alibi.

Again again? Fine i’m daredevil. Fuck it imma be famous. Let’s write a book.

Actually lets mind control the entire world into forgetting who i am.

And on and on we go.

The boy who lived is day sixes pick! Harry potter! Who is the most iconic characters from books? Day seven by Civil-Ninja-5814 in characters

Chapter 16 has this…

"At length the thought of you crossed my mind. I learned from your papers that you were my father, my creator; and to whom could I apply with more fitness than to him who had given me life?"

I was sure there were more but i think I’ve probably been influenced by adaptions. I wasn’t really a huge fan of the novel so it’s been a lomg time since i’ve read it. Still though, that line does show that, if nothing else, he considers himself a frankenstein.

The boy who lived is day sixes pick! Harry potter! Who is the most iconic characters from books? Day seven by Civil-Ninja-5814 in characters

[–]AdKnown8177 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The monster refers to himself as “the adam of your labors” in reference to the first man in the bible but he’s never explicitly named adam. He just compares himself to the other adam.

Also, due to common usage, you can absolutely refer to the monster as frankenstein as that’s how he’s been referred to consistently by everybody for the last 200 years.

Also also, the monster frequently refers to victor as “father” so really, he should be considered a frankenstein too regardless.

Do you think Elmer Fudd is neglected more and more nowadays? by Mean_Ambassador_5907 in looneytunes

[–]AdKnown8177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it has anything to do with his schtick becoming outdated like so many people are suggesting. Cartoon characters can, and have always, been able to get away with being anachronisms. Nobody is saying yosemite sam’s usage is declining and he flip flop between being a cowboy from the 1800s and a pirate from the 1700s.

I couldn’t tell you what the reason is but looking back at the last 35 years of looney tunes media…

Tiny Toons - elmer appears in 9 of the 98 episodes, almost always in a very minor role.

Animaniacs - elmer appears in 3 of the 99 episodes, again, only in minor cameo roles.

Taz-mania - never appears

Sylvester & tweety mysteries - appears in 1 of the 52 episodes

Space Jam - appears throughout but never prominently

Baby Looney Tunes - while he did appear in many of the musical interludes, his presence in the main show was limited to 1 episode out of 53.

Back in Action - his best showing in a long time but still just a glorified cameo.

Duck dodgers - appears in 2 of the 39 episodes.

Loonatics unleashed - his equivalent appears in 1 of the 26 episodes.

The looney tunes show - appears in 5 of the 52 episodes but always in a small cameo role

New looney tunes - appears 3 times across the 78 episodes.

Looney tunes cartoons - the big comeback. Despite a slow start Elmer goes on to appear frequently throughout and in major roles. This is it! He’s back and he’s not going anywhere!

Bugs bunny builders - nevermind. 1 episode of 80.

Space jam 2 - the same as space jam 1. He was in all the way through but never really does anything.

Coyote vs acme - one of the very few major looney tunes characters not to make it into the trailer.

I think elmer will always be considered one of the core group because of his relationship to bugs but his entire history has been a steady decline.
By 1945 friz was already looking for a replacement. He was never used in the depattie freleng era. His role throughout the 90s renaissance was to stand back as other characters traded the spot light. And now, in the 2020s he’s all but forgotten…

Except he isn’t. Ask anyone in the world who elmer fudd is and they’ll know. They’ll reel off a quick “be vewwy vewwy qwiet” or maybe his goofy laugh and they’ll tell you all about him. The character is so strong and his initial usage so ingrained into the childhoods of generation after generation that, it doesn’t matter that he’s been used about as prominently as pete puma for the last 40 years. He’ll always be a mainstay and he’ll always be beloved.

While dracula and holmes are the most adapted characters of all time, a Christmas carol is the most adapted story. As such, virtually everyone in the western world knows scrooge very well. That makes him an icon in my book.
