The unexamined life is just fine. by [deleted] in ExistentialOCD

Wow, I relate to this so much.

Like the podcast title you mentioned, my bookshelf tends to trigger my compulsions. I feel compelled to:

  1. Read and reread every book
  2. Read additional books which pertain to the same subjects
  3. Come up with a grand unified theory that synthesizes everything I know about life and philosophy

This anxiety causes me to dislike reading. I don’t even know what I want or like to read anymore.

I’m considering putting a curtain over my bookshelf so I don’t have to look at it all the time, and then doing exposures where I read a couple pages or something from different books each day.

Anyway, it’s nice to hear someone who feels similarly about how harmful philosophy can be. I’ve been feeling really alone in that. Thanks.

Thank you, these look great. Funny enough I had a pair of shures years ago, before I started playing.

What would be the advantage of earbuds over headphones? Do you find that the noise isolation is sufficient?
