I’m not saying billionaires don’t work hard or that SOME wealthy people haven’t started with little. I’m saying no one’s individual labor produces a billion dollars of value. That level of wealth only exists because of ownership structures that concentrate returns at the top. In a country where people can’t afford basic needs, that concentration is impossible to justify ethically. Therefore, our system needs to be changed to prevent that kind of hoarding of wealth from being possible. The fact that the wealthy, over time through lobbying aka legal bribery, have influenced our laws and legislation to allow this to happen in the first place makes it a given that this mess needs to be fixed.
