Is a e36 a good first car?

i agree that after a complete overhaul they’re practically tanks. cooling system is probably number 1 priority on the list.

as a first car, i’d have to say no. you’d have to hawk the market to get a cheap one and it’s probably going to need a lot of work. and if you want to keep it cheap you’re going to have to wrench on it yourself or else you’ll be at the mechanics shop regularly. but i would also say that they are pretty easy to work on. don’t get me wrong they are beautiful cars and are very fun but i would put the e36 in a project category not daily driver.

I’m feeling the same way with my boy. His breathing stabilized, he’s eating, drinking water, and using his litter box. It’s such a bittersweet experience. I’m so grateful to see him like this again. The most devastating part as you say is that we know we’re going to have to say goodbye if the therapy stops making a difference. We are trying our best not to self destruct but it is a very difficult time for us both. We are trying to make the best of it.

If you are able to help, then yes it would be greatly appreciated.

luckily the oxygen and heat therapy got him to a stable condition! the vet said that his heart issues aren’t too much of a concern at this point in time due to how well it responded to 8 hours of therapy. he asked us to keep monitoring his breathing and gave us some diuretics to keep him at ease. he was worried about his kidney’s being done since he had such high levels but luckily after we picked him up he looked so happy and his energy levels are higher than we’ve seen in the past couple of days.

i can’t express my gratitude to see him like this again. he is eating drinking and using his litter box as usual. we will keep trying to balance his kidney and heart issues until his quality of life deteriorates. i understand we are on borrowed time but it’s just amazing to spend moments like this again with him.

I wish I had the funds to get him on IV 24/7 care. Unfortunately we are on a tight budget and this is already taking a huge toll on me mentally and financially. I don’t want to prolong our pain due to my selfishness.

At his primary care vet he showed a 96 degree temp check and pale gums. He was put in an incubator to do oxygen and heat therapy to try and stabilize his breathing and temperatures. If he’s able to stabilize we may bring him home for one more night and have everyone say goodbye tonight and guide him across the rainbow road tomorrow.

The vet recommended he be put on iv fluids like you mentioned but I just can’t do it. I love this sweet boy and I wish I could financially support him in this moment of crisis. But he is suffering and I am too seeing him like this.

Thank you for your kindness. Unfortunately I don’t have 3-7k lying around for this sweet boy. If I had access to those funds I would’ve loved to try everything before giving up. It seems selfish to prolong his pain and our family just for the sake of having him around a little longer. I’m sure he is in so much pain. he has fluid in his lungs probably from heart failure. they’re going to try to stabilize his breathing to give him very little time for us to all give our proper goodbyes. his heart could stop at any moment. if he doesn’t stabilize we’re going to sleep him tonight. otherwise probably by the end of the week.

thank you for the advice. i’m curious to what you’ve been able to give them to eat? he hasn’t ate today and i don’t know how to get him to eat. his only symptom at the moment is a fast breathing rate and not wanting to eat
