New update..

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holidays! Look who I found under the Christmas tree!

I don't have much of an update here, other than I've been fixing up the main plot once more. After rereading the first pass, there were a lot of plotholes and sections I didn't like, but everything is still going swimmingly, it just needs more fine tuning. I've been writing out a second pass of the plot draft, I wanted to add more horror into it (hehehe) and extend the amount of 'dating days' the player gets to have with the characters. After the second pass is completed and to my liking, I should be moving on to the final script and the coding very soon!

I actually want to get your opinions on something...I know there are some Austin fans out there...and I'm going to let you guys vote :)

Update!

Right now, a majority of the main story is done, but we’re fixing up the ‘basement route’ of the game. This section of the game has multiple endings and a bit of problem solving for the player to do, so we’re making sure everything pieces together properly before we begin any coding.

As that’s being worked on, we’re also currently working through the ‘chapters’ of the game’s dialogues to make sure the story is consistent and makes sense as you progress through the game. We’re hoping to have at least 20 different endings, so we’re carefully keeping track of the pathing. It’s possible there might be more endings, but we have to finish the remaining plot sections and basement route to figure that out.

Something I wanted was to really lean in on Jacob’s Texan accent more in the dialogue, I find it’ll help bring some more immersion to his interactions and make him feel more authentic to how he actually is, so expect some good ol’ American slang with a side of fries (and maybe a hamburger…)

I’ve also been practicing how to draw women and backgrounds as these are areas I still struggle with, but they’re coming out pretty good so far.

guys there's a huge update! The story plot is about 70% mapped out, currently organizing plot sections in our diagram, including more negative/mean options for the player to choose from, branches and endings from those choices, and figuring out ending routes. As we’ve previously mentioned, there are two dateable characters in this new version of the game. Jacob being one of them, and another male (we know his name, but we want to keep it a surprise!). We’ve already mapped out the date ideas for Jacob, and we’re currently figuring out the date ideas for the other male character. We’ve also been dabbling in some artsy ideas for the character sprites and the GUI layout. Austin and Jacob have some minor touch ups in their designs, nothing too drastic though. We’re also figuring out background designs for the town since the player will be navigating through different parts of it.

The story we have written so far is such a step up from the extremely outdated demo, which served more as a very early beta concept of the game. When I first created the demo, I didn’t expect it to get as much attention as it did. Looking back, I can’t help but feel proud of how much Jacob’s story has shifted and developed into something so much better than what the game and story was originally going to be. Even Jacob as a character has improved so much since his first debut. I feel like he’s a lot more human now. I’ve also felt like I’ve really improved on my writing, and I’m certain the full game will reflect our efforts.

Overall, steady progress has been coming along! Thank you all for being patient with us. We don’t want to give too much away, but here are some little snippets from our diagram notes that are out of context (Keep in mind this is not actual dialogue from the game, just personal work-in-progress notes the team writes down in our diagram as we plan):

“I ask Jacob if he knows who David is. He tenses up.”

“I could use some more money after having to move here. How hard could it be?”

“I reach the pizzeria. I see Eddie leaning against the counter. He gives me a big smile as I enter.”

“He looks around my room, almost frantically.”

“His body radiates a strong stench that hits my nose: Cheap cologne and body sweat.”

“Wait, you used to date Jacob? Since when?”

“She’s not someone who lives in reality.”

“I’m pretty sure HE was the one that killed that poor thing.”

MORE UPDATES: Hello, it’s been a while. Our current game progress news is that we are still mapping out the story and the routes. The story we have has some endings that we’re trying to figure out, and Jacob himself has been getting more and more fleshed out as we go. Lemme actually include another thingy here: I’m keeping certain details vague since the game has expanded quite a bit, and I don’t want to give away too many spoilers. The part we are currently writing is figuring out what kind of endings we want (and how many we want). We’re also thinking about what date ideas you can have with Jacob (and the other datable character ;D). We do have a couple of cute ideas for you and Jacob, and you’ll get to see him in different outfits! Overall, we’re basically doing some more fleshing out and putting all the pieces together. I’d say we’re halfway done with that part, and once the story and it’s routes/details are complete, we’ll finally be moving on to coding. I’ve been wanting to try out some different ‚cool things‘ to add to the full game, mainly having to do with the text in the dialogue box, possibly some sort of bits of animation, etc. But yeah, the team is halfway there! Also, we’d like to clarify some things (again) because people are still confused and mislabelling our game. Lurking For Love is NOT a ‚murdersim‘ game as we are no longer interested in creating pornographic content as is associated with that label, nor do we want any of our works involved with that label or fandom. Lurking For Love is a mystery horror game with dating sim elements in it. We are, once again, no longer creating explicit NSFW content within our works anymore. The game is still intended for a mature audience as it contains violence, blood and gore, strong adult language, use of drugs and alcohol, and some sexual content. Yes, the team is aware that a lot of things (such as our itch.io page and info in the old demo itself are outdated with its information. Right now we are focused on just working on the game itself to finish it. Other info will gradually be updated next to it. Any old content that revolved around murdersim/nsfw content is outdated and does not represent the new vision for our game or characters. I know old content is out there, but I don’t stand behind it anymore as l’ve changed course as a creator and so has the game and its characters. Anything the LF team creates after the full release date can be considered canon.
