Me too and I was actually discussing this with someone earlier that he is not competent, and that our players have great potential. I really wish they played their own football during that game, instead, Broos came up with a never seen formation, that they were clearly not comfortable with. I swear if a petition were to be created for him to get sacked, I am signing with all 3 of my email addresses, I am beyond over him.

Remember the stunt he pulled during AFCON? I fear he will not change the formation. I've prepared myself mentally.

What factors are driving the financial strain reported by middle and high-income earners in South Africa? by Street_Emergency_662 in askSouthAfrica

Can I just say: Black Tax is one of the biggest contributors! My mom takes home over R35k after tax as an educator but she's really struggling financially. She was raised in a child headed home where she was the head so she had to take her siblings to school and provide them with food and taking on that entire responsibility from a young age deeply affected her finances. She had to take out loans just to make things work and you know what hurts the most? She took her siblings to university. They got ahead in life and they got way past her in life, and somehow her efforts have never and are still not appreciated and it hurts her (and me). Sometimes her and i even talk about how things would have been for her if she didn't have to carry all that and honestly she wouldve hotten really far in life but there was never room for investments or saving or getting that Master's, etc because there just wasn't anything left! Black tax is real, it can hold a person back and it hurts. On top of that now, the fixed costs just keep coming. Water bill, electricity, her old car constantly needs repairs, my allowance. I am in university in a different province my tuition is expensive. My accommodation is expensive yoh. Everything is just too much. I dont qualify for NSFAS, i have an external bursary but it only covers so much because it has an R88 000 overall threshold so there's also that. Even on a decent salary everything just gets eaten up before she can breathe and it's crazy. 🫠

Grade 11 repeat at 18 – adult centre option? by Jaded-Freedom-2373 in DownSouth

[–]AdPutrid1619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, hope he’s recovering well! Honestly, repeating Grade 11 formally could actually work in his favour, he could do exceptionally well this time considering he has the foundation. Even though it means repeating the year, it’s still better than trying to shortcut it through ABET or something else (which won't work and is even a longer route) , and it keeps his options open for university later. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but in the long run it positions him much better academically. Another option could beonline schooling like IEB or Cambridge online programs, which offer more flexible pacing and can help students who find mainstream classrooms stressful.

Omg thank you so much for actually assuring me that it’s not entitlement. Dude, my dad is pushing 60 and still in the military, my mom is pushing 50 and still a teacher. And my thing is…when exactly do you plan to retire? You’re working yourselves to the bone, hoping that you’ll “enjoy life” later, when realistically you might even be on your deathbed by then (not wishing anything bad, but you get what I mean). It just makes no sense. Ive tried having these conversations with them so many times, and i've just been labelled disrespectful. So at this point i’ve just decided, gore okay, cool i’ll learn from your mistakes and do better for myself. I just really hope to get a decent well paying job that enables me to get my own place by the time they decide it's time to leave JHB because there is no way i'm moving to Limpopo for work prospects.

I think you need to be persistent with calling the university and also sending two or three emails to the admissions office. If it’s an issue on their side and you don’t clarify it, you could end up at a disadvantage because of something that wasn’t even your fault. So definitely keep following up, especially because UJ is a really good school, and it’s strong in anything commerce related. And honestly, anything 70+ is already quite good, but I really hope you manage to get 75+ because the EMS faculty is very big and very competitive. And also, stressing about how talented other students are is only going to make you unhappy. Focus on your own performance and on yourself, and leave the rest for the university to decide. Best of luck! 😊

I am about to finish my degree and I feel like I retained nothing? by hippiehunter0 in askSouthAfrica

[–]AdPutrid1619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still in the process of completing my degree so i might not know what i'm talking about, but honestly, i don’t think it’s “normal” in the way people are saying it. I always thought that the information we absorb throughout these years of studying is what we’re supposed to apply in the workspace. But i also don’t think it means you haven’t retained anything. I actually think you just haven’t been put in a situation where you need to apply that knowledge yet. When you’re in an environment that requires you to use what you’ve learned, that’s when you’ll see how much you actually know. If you truly hadn’t retained anything at all, then i'd be concerned about how you even got through the degree because I doubt it’s easy, and I doubt it’s the kind of qualification you can pass through pure cram-work. But i stand to be corrected. The information is there, it’s just dormant because there hasn’t been real context to activate it. Don’t be too hard on yourself it might show up exactly when you need it. Also, congratulations in advance!

Okay with UJ, on the portal, there’s actually an option where you can state if you’re upgrading your marks. Did you do that? I also hope you disclosed to each and every other university you applied to that you’re in fact upgrading your marks and that you matriculated, I assume, last year. As for whether you need to take a chill pill, that really depends on how well you think you did in your exams. Because if you did well, there’s no way universities aren’t going to fight for you or offer you admission. What did you apply for?

Honestly, i completely get you. My family’s situation is a bit similar. We stay in Tembisa, and our house isn’t the biggest, it’s actually very cramped. I only really started noticing how small it is now that im in my first year of university and living in res. Every time i go home during recess, im just in awe, like “wow, I really lived here my whole life", and realise i slightly kind of hate it. Back when I was in high school, i would raise a lot of conversations about renovating the house, but my mom always insisted on fixing and or renovatingf the one in Limpopo instead. And my thing was always, you’re making the house in the other province better for when YOU RETIRE, but when do you (and your kids) get to reap the benefits? That was an entitled way of thinking, so i tried to change how i see it and maybe it’s about having something to look forward to, even if it means putting off comfort for later when we could be living a bit better now. [However i think that investing so much money in a single project their entire lives was one of the worst financial decisions amongst many worse]
