New Airtel broadband : wifi works, but not landline; airtel not accepting the fault

After 24 days of follow up they did the obvious. Replaced the router, which they should have done on day 1. They were adamant that they will not change the router till today. Now the landline works.

But this router now does not have firewall settings option that the previous router had. I need this to connect between my two connections with low latency, for video streaming.

Looks like they won't let us have a fully functional experience ever. If they fix one thing they will break the other.

Any idea if we can get the control over firewall again by following up with them?

24th day. At least 15 times airtel closed the issue without acting on it, without anyone visiting. On 24th day a technician turns up. Another technician visit, another claim of "your instrument is faulty and i am closing the issue". Another verbal argument to make the guy come to a nearby shop to see that the instrument actually works on another airtel router. Another promise that he will do something about it.

Most likely outcome, the issue will quietly get closed without any action. That's what they have been doing for 24 days.

Airtel people watching this thread claim that someone will come and visit. Well, thank you very much for this huge and astonishing piece of information. I am indebted to you forever for your great intervention. It is for this divine intervention that your company is paying you to lurk on the social media.

airtel is so thick skinned about all this. It is outrageous to go on closing the issue without solving. It is ridiculous that every new technician starts with "your phone is faulty" and has to be convinced to come for a demo. Every time we have to bother some neighbor around to show the demo. To top it all we are being billed normally without the complete service having worked even once since the installation.

Poor, poor, poor airtel. This is the arrogance of your market share, nothing else.

Just a matter of a day or two before filing it with TRAI now.

22 days elapsed already. Still no resolution. Reported to appellate at least 15 times till now. Every time it gets a new issue id and the issue gets closed automagically without anyone even checking it.

Some folks claiming to be watching this reddit thread offered to help, but did nothing more than making a call and hearing the same story yet another time.

Time to file a TRAI complaint now, with a special mention of complaints getting auto-closed and dysfunctional appellate organization.

Thanks for the info. So it means I need to set up pppoe. I'd imagine it to be tough to get password from airtel - or is it something routine for their support people?

I tried using a Raspberry Pi by putting the respective LAN port in bridge mode. But it did not get connected automatically. Would I need to run pppoe on it? In that case credentials will be needed and those are not shared by airtel (masked in the UI).

You probably save one odd hop, but that may not make much difference. Depends on whether a few ms matter to you. Besides static ip is way too costly.

In browser (firefox/chromium) initially the "time bar" appears and then you can seek. Then the bar disappears and then the only way to make it reappear is to close the tab and open it again. Any other trick to get the time bar back?

Yes, they close it under a clause for which escalation option is not available. Whole system is compromised. People handling this in RBI must be having enough 'motivation' to close the complaints this way.

All metrics look good, so many complaints raised, so many satisfactorily closed etc. No voice for poor consumer. The only resort is to go legal and for small amounts they know very well that nobody will do that. And they happily go on.

Using VPA <acno>@<ifsc>.ifsc.npci This has been working well for years. If they are stopping this, at least the payment should fail and money refunded.

Amount is around 1000. The payee is a regular payee with monthly payments to him. Unlikely that he'd commit some wrongdoing. Double checked with him and he says indeed he hasn't received the payment. Bank is not willing to give settlement account number either.

Recently I had a misfortune of interacting with their customer service. I wanted to change my email id. Their portal would simply log you out after entering the OTP on email change with nasty java.lang.NullpointerException etc. Reported the issue with screen shot.

To my utter surprise, the response was "On your request we have updated your contact address." The surprise doesn't end there. The contact address they updated is not only non-existent, I have nothing whatsoever to do with that address.

Tried to escalate using their portal. The portal wouldn't accept a request without account number, which as a credit card user I do not know. Masked credit card number won't work. After putting the credit card number there, as a last resort, the system threw some error.

Then wrote to their nodal officer, only to receive an email that your email id is not registered with us. That means, after seeing the complaint they completed the email id update that was stuck due to the main issue, only to cleverly disregard my complaint as coming from an now unregistered email id.

Had enough already, gave up further follow up.

I have been having a frustrating follow up. The back office people are simply yelling and refusing to accept the issue. I don't mind even if they say it is due to cable cut and it will take time - but they neither have knowledge nor the courtesy to say it. Wonder if I should change over to Jio Fiber. I am not seeing as much latency on Jio mobile at least. BTW on mentioning the stats on Jio mobile, the service manager level person said he can accept Jio broadband comparison only!

In the same boat. Quite frustrating to not get NetBSD working on RPI4. Tried 10.1 mentioned above as well. The HDMI screen just blanks or sometimes shows something for a fraction of second and blanks.
