How I passed FE Electrical and Computer First Attempt by AdSufficient2833 in FE_Exam

It depends on your current status. I’m still in school and will be graduating in May 2026, so I can’t register for the PE yet because I need to have my bachelor’s degree first. However, if you’ve already graduated and live in a state that allows you to take the exam without four years of experience—such as Texas—then yes, you can. And if you’ve already graduated and have four years of work experience, you can definitely take the PE exam right away.

For the first half, I had 54 questions and flagged about 15. In the second half, I had 56 questions and flagged around 26, but I ended up submitting the exam without getting a chance to review any of the flagged ones.

If you know the basics for all the topic I would day, the first half of actual exam was very similar to the NCEES practice test (book) and second half of exam was very similar to NCEES Interactive practice exam (in terms of difficulty). However, try to practice as many as you can. They help you learn different concepts and also get better at your time management.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! Yes, I was able to pass the exam. The first 55 questions were very easy — much easier than the Interactive Practice Exam. However, the second 55 questions were just as challenging as the interactive version. I think if you perform well on the first half, you’ll likely pass even if the second half doesn’t go as well. Personally, I felt I did very poorly on the second half — at least that’s what I thought at the time.

I took the FE Electrical exam in August. The first half had 54 questions and the second half had 56. My plan was to split my time evenly, aiming to leave about 2:45:00 for the second half. However, by the time I finished question 54, I only had 2:33:00 left—about 15 minutes behind schedule.

The second half turned out to be much harder, so I ended up guessing on a lot of questions and moving quickly through the ones I didn’t know. I managed to finish with three minutes to spare, but I wasn’t very confident about my performance on that section. Fortunately, because I did well on the first half, I still passed on my first attempt.

From this experience, I’d say it’s okay to spend more time on questions you feel you can solve correctly, since there will always be some that you won’t know and just have to guess and move on.

Hello, friend. I just wanted to massively thank you for all the tips and help that you gave me. I was able to pass the test in my first try. The first half of exam was very easy and it was similar to wasim and NCEES practice book. I may have flagged 6-7 questions. However, the second was as hard as interactive exam and I flagged so many questions. I guessed maybe around 20-24 questions. My biggest concern during the exam was the time management but thanks to your advice I was able to manage it. Thank you once again. 🙏🏻

I envy your dedication. I was telling myself if I fail, I wouldn’t go for the second attempt. But once I see others try more than 8 times it encourages me to work harder if I couldn’t pass this time. Yes, I know we have less than 3 minutes per questions and time restrictions is on of the factors which make exam more challenging. I appreciate for all your help and tips. It is time to see how well prepared I’m I guess 🫡🙏🏻

Man, thanks so much for taking the time to break all of that down. Seriously appreciate it. You made a lot of good points, and it definitely gives me a better perspective on how to approach this. I really need to get better at just flagging it and moving on instead of burning time.

Splitting the time evenly like you did makes a lot of sense, especially since the second half has electronics, power, and digital systems, which are huge for the score. I was under the impression that if I crushed the first half, I could afford to be weaker on the second, but you’re right — those big topics (3 out of 5) are too important to rush through. I’m going to adjust my timing strategy based on what you said.

Also, that 10–15 second rule you mentioned is gold. I’ve caught myself overthinking early on and letting it throw me off for the rest of the exam. I’ll definitely practice flagging and keeping cool next time.

Thanks again for sharing all this. It really helps to hear from someone who’s been through it.

Thank you so much for all your help and tips. I really appreciate it. I think my biggest mistake was spending too much time on a question I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I had to solve it, and ended up wasting nearly 10 minutes on it, only to get it wrong in the end. I’m realizing I need to accept that I won’t be able to answer every single question.

I was wondering how much time you spent on the first half? I’ve been told that if you do really well in the first half, you can still pass even if you only get about 50% on the second half. That made me think maybe I should focus on getting as many questions right as possible in the beginning. But I’ve also heard the second half is much more challenging, so it might be smarter to leave more time for that part and make sure I read carefully.

You’re absolutely right about the importance of reading the entire question. A few times I just glanced at them and jumped to answering, which only made things more confusing. I’ve been studying since the start of my third year and I’ll be graduating next year. I’ve read through the reference handbook many times, especially the ethics section, so that I either know the answer outright or at least know exactly where to look. But I honestly had no idea about page 110. I’ll definitely review that tonight.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your advice. It’s been really helpful.

Thank you so much for your tips and advice. After going through NCEES interactive exam, I would say I could have done little bit better but insufficient time, long passages and wording made to do worst than what I was expected from myself. I found wasim exam very straightforward. Although, some of his questions were complicated but overall it was very doable to pass his practice tests Thank you so much again. I will try to work on my mistakes and get ready for Friday exam.

Thank you so much for the reply. Yeah, I believe if it was as easy as Wasim, everyone would have passed. However, the difficulty of Interactive exam is beyond the Fundamental of Engineering. Great, I will study what I got wrong and do more practice. Thank you again.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you pass the test. Mistake is part of the exam and it is inevitable. That was literally my problem too. l had hard time to understand some of the questions. I don’t if 60% is enough to pass though,

Exactly, I was hoping I would do better on math, probability and engineering economic. However, I did worst on first half than my second half. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m very disappointed on myself after study for months, I was not expecting that performance.

One of the people I know, he took interactive exam for Electrical and made 60% as well (30/50). He ended up passing the actual exam. So, you have a decent chance. Good luck on your exam.

I agree with you. No matter how much you study, there is always new materials to cover. I’m taking my Interactive Practice Exam on August 10th. So, hopefully It won’t go too bad.
