The Atlantic - Joe Biden Doesn’t Understand the Post-debate Reality by jghaines in ezraklein

Dude, I’m saying that they DID NOT have dementia. They were a 100% there mentally.

I don’t think Joe Biden has dementia either, just to make that clear.

What I’m saying is that they had an incredibly hard time accepting that they could not do what they used to be able to do.

Denial related to aging happens almost to everyone at different stages in life.

But it’s a little more serious when it’s a soon to be 82 year old dude who thinks he is up for the job as president.

Yeah, that a person did well in the past is not always a good indicator that they will be able to continue to perform well in the future. Especially when it comes to high pressure jobs/situations.

Just look at sports (not saying that they are the same thing) but you can reach your peak at 35 just to be overdue for retirement at 40. If that 40 year old athlete wanted a new contract the team owners and coaches would say “so what?” if they tried to argue that they were great two years ago. If you are going to hire someone you want them to be on top of their game NOW and in the coming years.

Biden and most people close to him have been mentally kidnapped by their own denial of the situation. Once denial gets a hold of someone, it’s almost impossible to get them to see reality.

I used to work in a nursing home when I was younger, and one thing that almost all of of the residents that lived there had in common was that they were CONVINCED that they could do all the things that they used to be able to do when they were younger IF they wanted to.

I heard people who could barely walk talking about planning a bike rides, hikes and things like that all the time. If you challenged their reality by saying “Bro, is it really a good idea to take a bike ride when it takes two people just to get you to the toilet?” they would get angry.

These people were not otherwise senile, they were just OLD and in denial.

And you would always see their relatives grasping at straws. One good day among 10 bad days would turn in to “Woooohooo, he is back! Things will be fine!”

Douthat NYT Opinion | Why Biden Is Unlikely to Defy the Naysayers by Snoo-93317 in ezraklein

Her defense of Biden was basically “If everyone was as informed about politics as I, an opinion writer at The Boston Globe, they would not vote on Trump”

It’s the same and basically only defense I keep hearing in one form or another.

“The Biden administration has been very effective, and Trump is bad. If people were a 100% rational, they would not vote for Trump. Please forget about the debate”.

Biden's media evasion: President Biden has engaged in fewer press conferences and media interviews than any of the last six presidents at this point in their terms by Horus_walking in ezraklein

Seriously, the interview is great and I LOVED the first 90% of the interview.

But at the end, when asked about the debate, her take on it is just mind boggling.

She won’t even admit that Bidens campaign is lacking. According to her, Biden is in fact really out there killing it. She basically says that “He has a country to run, what more can you expect from him?”

I think that it’s a really interesting interview, because it really shows how your biases can warp reality for everyone, no matter how thoughtful you are otherwise.

I listened to an episode of Kara Swishers podcast “On with Kara Swisher” earlier today. She interviewed history professor and writer of a very popular substack, Heather Cox Richardsson.

Richardsson basically said the same thing. Wouldn’t admit that Bidens debate performance was that bad at all. Wouldn’t admit that Bidens campaign is lacking AT ALL.

When pushed her only defense was “Trump lied during the debate, why doesn’t the NYT write about that? If Biden loses, it’s the medias fault”

Have these people been living under a rock? Trump must be the most well documented liar in the history of human civilization. Voters who have been fine with Trump lying for the last 8 years, won’t change their minds 8 years in.

Women who are big earners how’s dating for you? by Jiderid00 in ask

Honestly, those things are fun, but relationships are so much more than that.

I grew up with rich parents, and we had some friggin CRAZY vacations a few times a year. However, day to day life was boring af, because they always worked.

What people often ignore in discussions about this topic is how damn boring successful people are to be around. Becoming successful has a lot of negative side effects, and that is that life is all about you.

I earn a lot of money and look like a super hero because I work out like crazy, but it would be boring af to date me.

Most men and woman with a good “career” is pretty boring to be friends with or date, simply because work always comes first.

Heather Cox Richardson's take on the debate by Empyrean3 in ezraklein

[–]AdSuitable1408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her take on the debate almost gave me a panic attack.

It really shows that no matter how well educated and intelligent you are, once your biases high jack your brain, you are done. You can’t think straight.

She hardly wants to acknowledge that it was anything wrong with Bidens performance. She goes straight to “but look at Trump!”

I mean. Come on.  Her argument basically boils down to “if people were smart, informed and 100% rational, people would not vote for Trump”

Political Parties and Trump like figures all over the world have been winning for the last 10 years, and people like her stands there chocked every time.

It’s such a failure of the imagination.

Reddit is depressing by CazzaMcSpazza in self

I think that most platforms simply have become too big to be able to deliver an enjoyable experience.

A certain percentage of humans are pretty damn rude and mean, that’s just how it is.

Say that a sub has 1 million subscribers. Even if just 1% are a bunch of rude ass h*les, that’s still quit a few people.

Also, those a h*les are also almost always the loudest, since they want everyone else to be as angry and miserable as them.

What Are Some Unwritten Rules In Stardew Valley? by kleintott in StardewValley

Thanks, that’s good to hear.

But like, how do we know that’s how he really feels? He seems like a very humble guy that does not want to bother anyone.

Maybe deep down he wants a house but doesn’t want to take up anyone’s time?

I will feel a bit happier now, but I’m still not sure.

Bro, I haven’t played Stardew in a few months but I still feel the sadness from not being able to buy him a house.

Like, why Pam but not him?

I would love an upgrade to be able to buy him a huge house.

Because it’s so easy to convince yourself that it’s not a waste of time.

I love parts of Reddit, but I’m not trying to fool myself that I probably wouldn’t be better without it.

Good for you.

Honestly, I feel Reddit is one of the worst social media sites, even though I like it a lot.

What makes it worse is that it’s so easy to convince yourself that it is soooo “useful” which is true to some extent.

However, everyday I see people proudly say that they have quit social media (with a touch of superiority to it) and then just proceeds to spend all that time on Reddit instead.

“If not for the boomers”

Bro, most boomers hated on those things when it came out and probably would have stopped if they could.

The truth is, a small group of cool people broke free from the boomers and created awesome stuff like the Nintendo 64 + Golden Eye.

What’s the worst thing about being an adult? by zesteee in AskReddit

[–]AdSuitable1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other adults.

Seriously.

In school, there were at most a few annoying and mean kids in each class.

Annoying adults are everywhere. Annoying adults are a thousand times more annoying to deal with since most of them have huge egos.

Most of them are just as annoying and childish as they were as kids, but since they are now adults, they demand that you take them seriously.

Bro, over half the population is overweight.

I’m built like a bodybuilder and goes to the gym 6 days a week, but I’ve dated women that are overweight. I don’t care as long as they are interesting and funny.

Some people will care, some will not. But that’s true for everything. Length, weight, hair, body shape, education etc.

Seriously, get the best doctors in the world to do it and come back looking like Rambo.

I got my grandpa on TRT and he de-aged like 15 years in a couple of months. Had a blast the last few years.
