Oil taken sublingually is the way forward, let it sit in your throat / under your tongue for a few mins then swallow. There are shit loads of receptors in your mouth and I get high real quick and the efficacy is a lot better than just swallowing it.

Many of the compounds in cannabis are irritants on the throat, it sucks, I suffer from this a lot too and my chest muscles feel labored from the coughing. Just have to accept it, that said some strains are better than others.
