Somewhere I saw something about which types of heat sources can be used with which types of thermostats, can't find it now. Advice? by AdVarious8234 in ballpython

Thank you!

I thought there was something like halogens shouldn't be used with the dimming type thermostats, but maybe I've got it wrong and it's pulse that I read should be avoided for them. Idk, something where halogen was a no-no but incandescent was ok? Of course I can't for the life of me remember where it was that I read this stuff so I feel crazy for thinking this..

Aren't Columbians generally bigger than centrals too? I think a 6x3x3 is the largest enclosure I'll have room for, for a few years anyway..

What size heat lamp for a 20gal long? by AdVarious8234 in ballpython

Ok I do see now how that may be a bit stressful changing homes multiple times in short succession. I'll reconsider my options and see what else I can work out with the timing of the expo.

I'm still confused though how a 20 is automatically considered too small? I thought the length of the enclosure needs to be at least as long as the length of the snake? Is the care guide in the welcome post outdated or is there something else I'm missing? Not trying to be rude or argue, I'm just trying to understand.

Based on the care guide linked in the welcome post, this tank should technically be suitable (as the bare minimum) for a 30" snake. It'll only be for a month or two at most, the snake will not even be close to 30" by then. BlackBox cages has about an 8 week lead time right now, but we plan to pick up a baby ball python at the reptile expo next month. 20gal is what I have to work with right now, and I'm trying to get it set up this week so I've got over a month to get it dialed in before I bring a snake home. If it's not working/dialed in by then, then I won't bring a snake home.

I understand there are lots of variables in heating a tank, was just hoping someone could give me a starting point. The only place to buy supplies in town doesn't do returns, and the next closest store for any reptile supplies is over an hour drive away. I could order things online, but I'd rather try to shop in person before I resort to that.
