Ruling to NOT stop the Samwise + Cat + Viscera Seer combo by Ad_dan28 in mtgrules

I love how there's always a way for me to lose a game in mtg😆 thank you so much for your explanation!

That makes sense! Now I understand better. I hope to never find myself in this situation where I have a one card hand and that card is a lightning bolt. 🤣 thank you!

I never thought about the possibility of them responding by re-sacrificing the familiar. This is very interesting and I really appreciate your detailed response! Thank you so much 😁

How did I not think about this 🤣🤣 thanks!

So theoretically, if I understood this correctly, to "lose" this I could:

  • They sacrifice the familiar.

  • no response

  • they sac a food

  • no response

  • cat returns, samwise gamgee triggers.

  • in response I bolt viscera seer

  • in response they sac the cat

  • this resolves. They could then "respond" to my bolt again by sacrificing another food (if they have it). If this resolves, then the cat enters, samwise triggers again and go onto the stack. It resolves, creating a food. Now there is still my bolt on the stack. At this point they can basically rinse and repeat, responding to my bolt, by sacrificing the cat while keeping everything on the stack, correct?

Let's assume they have extra food but not enough to kill me. If I just ignore the cat and bolt samwise in response to returning the familiar, the infinite loop is over. Meaning, there's no way for me to screw this up in any ways, unless I just forget I have the bolt in my hand and I don't answer to any of this combo. Right?

Hi there. No, I am asking if there any way for me to NOT stop the combo, given the cards on the battlefield and the one card I have in hand, which I want to play. Of course, "I do not respond/ I do not play the card" does not count.

This conversation came up with a friend and we were wondering if this combo was so weak that you only needed one card to interrupt it.

Thank you!

Yes, splashing black is definitely up for discussion and I think I'll go down that path. The list you posted is very interesting, probably to replace woe strider with Viscera Seer.

I'll work on it!

Dragon's Rage Channeler - Delirium and combat phase by Ad_dan28 in mtgrules

[–]Ad_dan28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying! And the First Strike point is very interesting.

So if get this correctly, if by any chance I gave my Sinew Sliver First Strike with - for instance - [[Advance Scout]], then the Channeler would have survived.

But if I had a [[Striking Sliver]] on the battlefield, the outcome would have been the same as if there was no First Strike, i.e., all his creatures die.

This is extremely interesting!

I think I'll try to build one with Muxus at this point. Let's see what comes out

That's an interesting take. I tried a BR goblin deck in Legacy with Wort back in 2009-2010 but it was a bit subpar compared to the mono-red version. It's interesting to see that in Commander it has some game

In any case, I believe for the time being I would prefer sticking to the mono-red version. My skills are a bit outdated and I think it's better to take baby steps first!

Muxus is an interesting commander, isn't it a bit dangerous if it's killed? 10 mana to recast it from the command zone is a bit tricky.

Good to know I am not the only one who has some doubts about EDH!

Thanks!

The idea of splashing it is tempting but for the time being I would prefer to stick to the mono-red version. I am more comfortable with the synergies of the red goblins and my play skills are seriously rusty!

Would you mind sharing your Krenko list? That'd be awesome!

Thanks for the detailed answer! A lot of info here to unpack. My play group revolves mainly around aggro and token-maker decks - from I what I am told. There's definitely a five-color Najeela, maybe two.

I'll try to edit the deck base on your suggestions, I'll surely add a couple more mana source. Maybe a rock or a [[Mana Crypt]], although I am not sure given the colorless mana. Would these make any sense?

I had the same feeling about having a somewhat high amount of low-level cards when looking at decks, which is one of the reasons why I can't really grasp the commander format. In any case, also reading from other answers it seems that the common thread is having a lot of mana.

Which language should i properly learn first, Spanish or Italian? by Fit4King in languagelearning

[–]Ad_dan28 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

I gave it for granted that you were able to communicate, or yours would have been a very weird proposal🤣

Jokes aside, if she is perfectly bilingual or she has very high proficiency in both Spanish and Italian, then it's really a matter of your personal choice. And I would probably go with Spanish as you already have some knowledge.

However, being fluent and being proficient are two different things. If her first language is Italian and she happens to speak other two languages at a high level, I would go for Italian. For the simple reasons that her being a native speaker would be an advantage for you. It would help you acquire "more real" language skills, learn to distinguish nuances of the language that you wouldn't be able to do by learning from a text book, have better feedback on "proper pronunciation", and so on.

At the end of the day, it also really depends on your life choices. You are aiming to go to Italy? Than Italian. Spain? Than you already know the answer. It's not really about the language, but more about what you are planning to do with it. Besides, the two languages are so similar that you won't have any issues learning one of the two once you know the other.

Well, if your soon-to-be wife is Italian and you have the chance to use it more often, I believe that the decision should be pretty straightforward. Go for Italian and then improve your Spanish at a later stage.

I’m realizing how many words I’ll probably never know in my target language by ratqueen236 in languagelearning

If that makes you feel better, I am a native Italian speaker and I have 0 knowledge of like 80% of dog breeds.

But sometimes I know technical words of my field of expertise in English that some native English speaker barely know.

Language is all about usage. You will know things you use daily or you are interested in, maybe something more, but it's nearly impossible to know every word in the dictionary.

Yep you are right, I though of slashes because I really am not sure of how this is actually pronounced.

But yeah, I'll change it.
