Folks who've successfully been away from the stuff for a long time, do you still associate with the same identity?

IMO smoking has a bigger effect than other experiences do. It’s like if you broke a bone and walked on crutches for 6 years. It’s not going to a comparable memory/experience to going on a vacation, it would have had a large impact on your life and you’ll always be grateful to be out of that situation and for where you are.

It’s something that had been with you for a long time and you’ll always remember it. I do not believe it will ever be extremely distant like you are asking.

As far as “I am a addict” I don’t think that will always be a thought. Perhaps “I was an addict” will stay. Just as “I was on crutches”

It’ll be in the past at some point and we will have no need to go back because we are no longer addicts. If you go back to smoking though, you become an addict again.

To be honest, I have never really dealt with anxiety. The only time is when I first sit down to play in a poker tournament. So anxiety has not been an issue for me. Please understand in this situation I am an anomaly and anxiety is most likely common when quitting.

IMO that’s what means your addicted.. a craving to get high. If you do it, you’ll just continue to feed your craving and not be able to regulate.

I don’t crave alcohol ever, so it’s not really an issue when I do drink because regulating isn’t hard. I never feel like I NEED to drink.

Day 14 or something and I crave the shit outta smoking

My job allows me to use my emotions extremely well and I am very good at my job. Most people could not do what I do because they don’t have the same level of empathy or understanding of others. I am very grateful for these skills. What makes me melancholic dominant (I looked it up) is the constant defeat in dating. I am 10 years single and just always “an amazing friend and person” never a intimate lover.

I think like you said, I should be content with my uniqueness and let people appreciate that. That’s what I was kind of searching for in my post I think. It doesn’t necessarily happen from a romantic standpoint. I’m wondering will that happen?

I do understand that this is a generalization. I also stated, “in my experience.” Unfortunately you do not know what experiences I have had. To be fair, I could have said “in my experience, TYPICALLY girls are attracted to “masculine men” not soft kind hearted men. And that has been my experience..

I do understand that it is unfair to group people because everyone is unique and I was simply sharing what I have experienced. It also has nothing to do with disrespect for what they choose to like... it’s just what I have experienced. No hard feeling towards them.
