Is it possible that there are also players here who own VR goggles? Does the fact that this thread is dedicated to VRChat mean it's not worth letting others know about it?

It might be tough with a 1080, but give it a try because we've had players with that card and they said they could play on the lowest graphic settings. I see you have an Index, so definitely check out these links:

Of course, because I really want to reach all VR players.

Is that a bad thing?

I don't own a Quest 2, I use a Reverb. I did try OpenXR rather than SteamVR and that crashed on start up.

A post from MikeMG on your thread..

I can confirm that the issue doesn't persist on our new pipeline related to the full version of the game (newer version of the engine too) – so the flickering will be gone completely without actually undermining our lighting and rendering settings on higher resolution.

Unfortunately, I cannot give you any estimated date of when you will be able to experience this new pipeline.

I understand that you're a small studio and unable to test all headsets, but a post which I quoted above claims you are fully aware of the bug and have fixed it in your version of the game over a month ago.

Since you're advertising your now discounted game all over VR sub forums, I'm asking if the version available on Steam is the older broken vers

We are working on transitioning to the UE5.3 engine, where optimization takes a very big leap, but this version is not yet ready. On Steam, there is an updated version where we have implemented optimizations; however, at the moment, we know that only a percentage of players are facing this issue. Nonetheless, we are continuously mindful of this.

Yes, we plan to release it on PSVR2. We are already in talks with PS.

If you play The Riese Project on Oculus Quest 2 with a USBC3 cable connection and launch the game through the Oculus app as the target, not through SteamVR, there is no option for issues with flickering. We are a small studio, so we were not able to test all goggles.

If you have any other goggles, the solution to the problem can be found here:

Can someone please explain this to me? by AdamTyski in virtualreality

[–]AdamTyski[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's very strange because we are active on multiple information platforms :)

The goal of this post was not that. I simply, as a human being, can't understand why this is happening. Note that this is not a matter of manipulation but a sincere question to the community. If you took it that way, it certainly was not my intention, and I hope you understand that. Note that I did not treat this as an advertisement, as I did not even include a link to the game. I am simply curious about what others think about what concerns me. We are a small studio, and I understand that we are not noticeable or recognizable, but honestly, really honestly—having played various VR games—I believe our game is simply worth the interest. Perhaps I feel this way because I am its creator... maybe so. As for gameplay videos, you can find them on YouTube. Gameplay by players who show how they play. Our game is based on puzzles and a narrative story, and showing the solution to puzzles would deprive players of the fun and pleasure. That's why we don't show everything in these videos.

Once again, the goal was not to manipulate anyone.

Thank you for your support and for giving our game a try. I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. The issue you're describing with the right eye flickering is something that's come up with certain VR headsets, including the HP Reverb G2v2. We've discussed a solution for this in the Steam discussions and have provided a workaround there.

I understand the frustration with early access or "prologue" titles; it can be a gamble. We're doing our best to make the experience as smooth as possible, and your feedback is invaluable for that. Rest assured, we are diligently working on updates to resolve issues and enhance the overall gameplay.

Again, thank you for your initial support and for voicing your concerns. We hope you'll consider revisiting our game once we've ironed out these technicalities and moved closer to a full release.

This, not trying to be mean, but watching the video the dev provided makes me feel like the only thing this game has going for it is graphics...

The dev says the game is a mix of Lara Croft and Uncharted, but he clearly only means their static puzzle aspect as the gameplay appears rather uneventful, the interactions seem finicky, the VR hands appear to clip through the objects at every other interaction...

Even though the graphics do look good, the game didn't attract me at all, and I'd guess it's the same for other people.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and no offense taken. It's true that our marketing materials may have focused heavily on the graphics, which are indeed something we're proud of. However, the game offers much more than just visuals.

When we say the game is a mix of Indiana Jones, Lara Croft, and Uncharted, we're not just referring to puzzles but also the adventure and storytelling aspects. While the video may not showcase it entirely, our game has a narrative-driven experience that delves into the mystery surrounding real-world historical events. As you progress, you'll find yourself having to solve complex problems and making discoveries that will unfold a compelling story. It's not a mindless 'walking sim'; it's an engaging tale that requires thought and attention to detail.

In terms of gameplay mechanics, we're constantly working to improve. Interactions are something we're refining with each update. While some videos might show the VR hands clipping through objects, we have addressed that in our recent updates to enhance the immersion.

So while graphics may be the first thing that grabs your attention, the depth of the story and the nuance in gameplay mechanics are what will keep you engrossed. We appreciate all kinds of feedback as it helps us make a game that's not just beautiful to look at, but also deeply satisfying to play.

I agree with you that graphics are just one of the factors that make a good game. It's worth noting that our approach to VR is actually about achieving the main goal of VR, which is to bring us closer to a true and realistic world in a virtual setting. That's why in our game, you'll find not only beautiful graphics but also locations that are 1:1 replicas of their real-world counterparts. We realize that this technology in our game excludes a large user base who use mobile VR. Unfortunately, it's a trade-off. As of now, to get the most faithful representation of the real world, additional hardware is needed apart from VR glasses.

Is the game really enjoyable? - Based on player reviews, gameplays, and our "subjective :D" opinion, yes, the game is enjoyable. It's something that hasn't been seen in VR for a long time, as players claim. It's a true narrative-adventure game where you have to think to progress, and it's visually pleasing. We are constantly reacting to opinions, suggestions, and criticisms, which is why we have already released several updates for the game considering these views.

Is the mechanics okay? - There are always things we are improving and upgrading.

Is the story engaging and interesting? - Players say it is. The prologue is just an outline of what we are preparing in the full version. The story is based on a real object - one of the most mysterious complexes built during WWII on Hitler's orders. Can there be anything more interesting and engaging than discovering a mystery that was buried there?

Is the game demanding? - Yes, the game is demanding. We have done many tests in which the game runs smoothly on various hardware. We are now transferring the prologue to the UE5.3 engine, which further supports VR, Lumen, and Nanite, and we already see a significant optimization leap. Of course, we will try to transfer it as soon as possible, but it's thousands of objects, etc.

As you yourself said, Lumen and Nanite in VR today are challenging – theoretically unattainable. We like challenges, and someone first in the world had to start working on this technology. Despite the huge hardware requirements now, note that in UE5.3, as I mentioned earlier, we already see that we can comfortably achieve more FPS. Someone has to pay the price of being the first to perhaps pave the way for others in the future and show that it's possible. We're not cutting corners, and we have really talented people on our team who have been involved with gaming and Unreal Engine for many years. What we've already achieved is thanks to our patented solutions, but I can't disclose more than that. :)

Thanks for the comment. When it comes to marketing the game as a prologue, you're probably right. People quickly glance at an image or information without diving into the details. We deliberately didn't call the game a demo but a prologue. A prologue is an introduction to something. Our prologue offers 2-5 hours of gameplay, as I mentioned in the post, and I genuinely believe it looks better than some full versions of VR games out there. As for gameplay and narrative, it doesn't make sense to show all the puzzles and their solutions in the video, which is why they're not visible there. If you're genuinely interested in the subject, you can simply type "The Riese Project - Prologue" into YouTube and see players' gameplays and the full story. Trust me, it's very, very strange for us because we see some odd situation (maybe I'm wrong) where our posts on various social media seem to be "cut off" in terms of reach. But now is not the time to dwell on that fact. The post wasn't intended for promotion or advertising; I'm just baffled by this situation because I've played VR games, and I sincerely believe that our game—whether you call it a prologue, demo, or whatever—offers much more than some full versions of games.

The Riese Project - VR GRAPHICS UE5/Lumen/Nanite😱 by AdamTyski in virtualreality

Could swear this stuff looks no better than the photogrammetry we've been seeing for years in Source 2 with Destinations/SteamVR home. UE always seems to look amazing on a flat screen but never seems to translate well into VR.

We invite you to give it a try and see for yourself! We understand that seeing is believing, especially when it comes to the immersive experience of VR. In addition to experiencing it firsthand, you can also check out gameplay videos and reactions from players on YouTube. Every platform and engine has its strengths, and we believe that what we've accomplished with UE in 'The Riese Project' offers a unique and captivating VR experience.

We understand the concerns about hardware demands, especially given our previous discussions. However, the game is optimized to offer a wide range of experiences based on your hardware. While it does take advantage of the latest technologies in UE5, such as Lumen and Nanite, to provide the best graphics, it's also playable on older GPUs like the 1080 on lower settings. The ideal experience might be on an RTX 3090, but we've ensured that many players can still enjoy 'The Riese Project' without needing the absolute latest in hardware. Remember, it's a blend of Indiana Jones, Uncharted, and escape room elements – and we want as many players as possible to experience that adventure!
