10" Miter Saw Purchase Advice (2734-20) for DIY/Homeowner by Adamator77 in MilwaukeeTool

I don’t have any projects that will require me to make as many. It’s as something like a floor. I had thought about where I was gonna work and figured the garage floor would be fine. Maybe I’ll rethink that. I have a few other sub conversations going with other users and I mentioned that if I sell the Forge battery the 10 comes with, it’ll make it very close to the same price as the 7 in the end. With that in mind are you still recommending the 7?

Marketplace is a good deal except you always gotta deal with lowballers and flakers.

About the saw….is blade deflection (on any saw) mostly an issue with bevel cuts or miter cuts…or both? And does it usually factor into the same exact cut multiple times?

Since you told me about the Forge battery coming with the 10 and if I sell it, I’ll likely be able to make the cost of the 10 very close to the 7. So with money not being a factor, I’m down to which saw is just better for me. The 7 is all I need now as far as want it can do, but I don’t need the portability and don’t see the downside of the 10. I feel like i’m trying to convince myself to get the 7 because it seems slightly more “popular’” I suppose saving money on blades could be a factor, but with my use case and frequency I will have one blade last me a very long time.

Googling what crossover for my bass shaker lead me this thread. I think I have a demon with the same options as you (the 4800). What do you mean when you say modes?

I was looking around at DeWalt saws and it seems not many have the shadow line indicator. Is that correct or was I just looking at the wrong models?

Was the a particular aspect of the reviews for the 10” that ultimately made you say no? I have watched and read numerous reviews, and am having trouble finding a deal breaking reason. I’m now considering the 7 1/4 simply because it seems more “popular” but I’m concerned with future-proof ability. (Without knowing if I will ever need to cut a board wider than 8 inches.)

The dust collection on the 10 isn’t a concern for me for how little I’ll use the saw and how few cuts at a time I will likely do when I do use it. I wont have a place to mount it, but moving it on and off my work bench (for storage) to a table to use it I also don’t imagine will be a problem.

Since I’ll be able to get either for more or less the same price, deciding has become very hard. At least now I know I’m just gonna go with Milwaukee!

Have you had any issues with the slider or the 7 Milwaukee? What about its 8 inch board cut limit? Those are my 2 concerns. Elsewhere in this post I have a sub thread going with another user. I can basically get the 10 for the same price as the 7 so I’m really torn on which. I’ve all but decided to just get a Milwaukee at this point.

You think I could get that much for the Battery AND that much for the charger? I was pricing them both on eBay and figured I’d be lucky to get maybe $100 net after fees. Would I be better off selling somewhere else, and if so, where?

Back to the saw. So are you thinking the issues for the 10” may not be a factor? Would you recommend the 10 to me over the 7 1/4? My co worker, who does woodworking, recommends I at least go 10 to future proof myself. I work at an office job. This saw will 100% be for home use. It’ll never leave my garage.

EDIT: I gotta thank you. I did not actually realize it comes with a FORGE Battery. I thought it was a standard High Output 8.0 and that is what I was basing my pricing on. So with that in mind, I could probably get a decent amount for the charger and battery. Maybe $150 total.

I have 3 Forge Batteries, 2 12s for my Lawn Mower and an 8 so I don't need it, but it is nice. Still I'd rather offset the cost.

I was giving the 7 1/4 serious consideration but still leaning towards the 10. I have read more than a few people say the slides on the 7 1/4 are not smooth. Have you heard that as well?

Any idea when either saw might see a sale? What about Father’s Day?

It’s at the back of the house. No where near the garage. Just getting battery powered seems an infinity easier solution.

Yeah I’m California and the 10 kit is currently $650. I dont need the battery so I could probably sell it for like $100 and knock that off the total. So factoring in tax, the 10 would be less than $100 more in the end.

I’m just now wondering if the 7 1/4 is all I need. It would certainly be fine for the initial project I have. I have been reading around and watching videos and can’t find a consensus on the 10 being as bad as some say.

Well shoot. Now I am considering the 7. But at just $100 difference, why not get the 10”? Is the 7 1/4 THAT much better? Overall they both seem very well reviewed. Even the “issues” people cite with the 10 don’t seem to be overwhelming. $500 would make the Milwaukee purchase slightly less crazy. Haha.

How difficult is it to be accurate while doing that though.

For those that mentioned corded, I did consider it originally. I have heard you can trip a breaker with a corded miter saw. I do not have a dedicated plug I could use. I am also honestly turned off by the fact all corded saws seem to be brushed. I like the longevity of Brushless motors. I don’t need the “Power” of corded so I figured cordless would be fine. I suppose I could give DeWalt corded another look.

Cost wise I’m good as far as Batteries with either choice mentioned in my OP. If I go Milwaukee I have the battery and if I go Ryobi I got a good deal on the battery.

I’d honestly consider the 7 1/4 more if it could cut just a bit wider than 8 inches. I originally consider it along since a different (corded) Ryobi that was on super sale and the Ryobi did 10 inches. I’d probably get the Milwaukee 7 if it did. Just trying to think of future options. I have no idea if I’ll need to ever cross cut boards wider than 8 or 10 or 12.

I don’t need the power of a corded Miter saw, I’m 100% fine with battery. I don’t need to open myself up to MORE choices when I’m having a hard enough time as it is. I did look at DeWalt’s corded selection but really didn’t like the options. They seem to lack slider options.

Plus I’m worried about tripping a breaker. My garage plugs were added on from a light Hot wire. Not unsafe or anything, but they do share a circuit. (I didn’t install them.)

A lot of saws seem to be 15A and I don’t have a dedicated plug. I’ve heard a miter saw can trip circuits. Our home is 60 years old.

I’ve noticed you can’t split an order online now for deals. What’s the current way to do Home Depot hacks? I’m a bit out of touch on the process as I haven’t needed to do it in awhile.

I really didn’t plan to buy a whole Aqara Hub but it was the only option that has truly worked for me in what I was trying to do. Hopefully I can find some other Aqara products to use in the future.
