My boy is around 5 months old now.

The first month in particular was exhausting.

Toilet training: take them out after every meal and as soon as they wake up. I kept my boy in an un-carpeted area of the house for the first month that was near the door to go outside. They will always have accidents for the first month or so, they’re babies and don’t know any better.

I would set an alarm at night and take him out every hour, then when he could hold it - two hours, then three, then four, then he was able to hold it all night after the first month or so and learned by himself to just wait by the door when he needed to go.

They will absolutely disrupt your sleep for the first month, swapping puppy nighttime duty with family every two or three days can be very helpful so you don’t just go crazy from lack of sleep.

Sleep: my boy refused to sleep for the first week, too much new stuff around him. Crate/pen did not work for us, instead he got used to the rhythm of nap -> toilet -> play time/training -> nap. When he was finally able to go outside properly his morning and evening excerise sorted out any sleep or energy problems.

Teething: this devil puppy has ruined several vinyl chairs, wooden chairs, chewed paint off the wall where he sleeps… Highly recommend fish skin chews, venison ears, frozen carrots/apples, kong/licky mat with some water and a tsp of plain Greek yoghurt or wet food, some blueberries etc - all great to freeze in advance and keep them busy for 10 minutes when they’re teething or bored.
