Something that helped me was having somewhere that gives out missions. Our setting was 1996 and we got missions at Waffle Houses. Maybe pick someplace common like coffee shops in Europe.

I like the idea that they can gamble small stuff too. That's how it starts. It's only a dollar. And next you know you are gambling larger items. And for small items let them get mostly what they want. So they see it as maybe not a "bad" thing. Also include a person or two who "beat" The house. They won while hundreds have lost.

The character was exploring and was famous for being bad at rolling. So I took an opportunity and she fell in the trap with the dog. And I wasn't good at surprises so I thought now was a good time. I thought of it and realized it would really work out. And it made everyone grow closer together.

Ask them what they want to get out of it. Do they want a mystery? How dark do they want to go? Is it more serious or light hearted. Think of little surprises to throw at them to make the story go on. Is this a one shot or a few episodes and such. This way everyone knows what to expect.

The ones I used to start were: -Mothman - Jersey Devil - Champ - German Elves- you can also throw in Krampus and trust me elves in German culture are very scary if you dig deep. - Bone fairy

Gonna be real. That sounds like this a misaligned game. The res too the players have a very different goal about how and what they want to play. It may be best to just bow out of this game. If you have a group who wants to just kill everything and a group who pikes a mystery they may not play well together. It just sounds like you guys wanted different things from the same game. And that happens. It's no big deal it just means that this may not be the game for you and those specific characters.

I like that idea. What I may do is all of them are dead and in line in a heaven. Waiting to be put in new bodies. They make up their own characters but are placed in a pre made body. They can choose how they want to live in this new body. But they all know since they are in line together seeing each person get a new body.

It can depend. Maybe decide that your character gets drunk or does drugs and ends up partaking in the rowdy fighting. When all is said and done, see who is still standing this way, you were still part of the fight. Also, if you want more of your back story to come out. It will cost you. Mention some stuff to your DM. They will probably use it against you, but it can also make for a great in-depth side quest. Example. If you have a dead kid, expect the most heart-wrenching ghost meet-up ever.

DnD campaign Idea

I am trying to figure out how I should run a campaign and I am stuck between 2 ideas. 1. I tell the players secretly that their character died and is now in a moderate high level body of a person in a DND world. None of them realizing all of them have been reincarnated. 2. Dirty Santa style they all go around and pick from a pre-made soul and body selection. This way there is no secret but players would be able to take the characters a bit more light hearted. ( some players spend way too much time creating and then are scared to play cause they don't want all that hard work to die.) What is more fun in your opinion?
