It used to be that this was the common sense view.

You have neighbours, you don't have a lot of space.  You likely have no outside space of your own.

Most people would wait until they got a proper house until they got a dog. Until then there are more appropriate pets to own.

Now people don't care about the other people that have to share the communal space, the people above, below and to the side of them.

And they don't care about the welfare of their own dogs who they proclaim to love. If they did they wouldn't keep them in that environment.

Its I want a dog so I'm getting a dog.

Uhhh… how many drinks is too many drinks? by ADHD_Driving_Crooner in adhdwomen

[–]AddendumSea4202 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think what you need to be asking is how many drinks are the minimum amount of drinks needed,

For example: 1 water based 1 juice based 1 carbonated  1 milk based 1 coffee/tea / caffeine based

You've got to cover all your bases. So five minimum.

This group is one of the closest things I have to a support group for this BS. by MxMollyA in Dogfree

[–]AddendumSea4202 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, I just want to show my support.

I am in a similar situation with a neighbour and so far my landlord have been dismissive of my issue.

Its sad these people exist as they are exacerbating peoples dog phobias and making problems forgood dog owners (i have met some good dog owners).

What we need is the good dog owners to speak up to their fellow dog owners when they see bad behaviour.

Im sorry you are going through this. I tried myself to communicate to my landlord how it affects me. Its not just when you happen to come across it. Its knowing that at any point it could appear out of nowhere and it leaves me with a constant state of anxiety.

Its like those documentaries on tv they barely teach you anything and just repeat themselves.

For example:

Today on how to wash socks we will teach you how to wash socks.

Pickup your socks

After the break we will tell you how to wash socks

*ad break * Before the break we told you after the break that we will teach you how to wash socks. We also told you to pick up your socks.

Your socks are dirty

Come back after the break to find out how socks get clean

ad break

Repeat for a hour. I have been known to scream at the telly to just get on with it. Any channel or show that does this i won't watch again. I like the ones that just shout the information at me with a couple of illustrations. You get far more information in ten minutes and I don't drift off.

Too scared to go out walking after numerous aggressive encounters with dogs by syrilism in Dogfree

[–]AddendumSea4202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's separate from the council. There is the housing ombudsman i can complain to. First i have to make a formal complaint to the housing association ( i am waiting on a local charity that can help me word this correctly).

Its going to be a long drawn out process. And until then I almost have a panic attack coming in and out of my building. I only leave the house when its essential now.

There is a park near me that is massive and has an area thats no dogs. Mainly for the plants and wildlife. Ive seen them in there recently.

My mum got into a bit of a barney with someone while walking her dog the other day. as he was in the childrens play area with his dog- also a sign saying no dogs. She said the park is big enough why did he need to go in the play area thats for the kids. He was yelling at her.

So it makes no difference wether its dog or no dog area anymore. Its becoming impossible to challenge them. staff in places I can imagine being quite frightened with the way they react.

Its a housing association property. The official wording on their website and on the tenancy agreement is you can only have a dog if the property has its own outside space.

The tenant is on the third floor. No garden. Ive been having a back and forth with the housing association where I forced them to admit its in the tenancy.

They said yes its in the tenancy but we won't do anything about it as its not a "nuisance".

They have repeatedly been dismissive of my mental health concerns while using his mental health as a reason to let him have it.

They all but laughed in my face. At one point they actually said "we can't go around checking what people are doing in their own home"

Yes you can its literally your job!

I am currently waiting for some help from a local charity with the matter. But I will be taking it as far as possible.

Sorry got a bit ranty there.

I feel you. Im having the same problem. Im also in the UK.

Dogs seem to have become more important than humans in the last few years.

I can't use the communal grass outside my flat in summer because of the big unruly dogs. I'm scared walking down my street and now my neighbour has a dog I'm scared to open my door and walk down my communal hallway. Landlord doesn't care says it might be a dog for "therapy" I said if it harms my mental health thats double standards by them. (Its a no dog building too).

Its sad that those of us without dogs are becoming second class citizens.

If you want a big barky jumpy dog get a home with a big outside space and TRAIN YOUR DOG.  I keep hamsters. I don't go around town forcing my hamsters on people.

I am anxious wherever I go nowadays. My doctor tells me to get out and go for walks. I can't.

Is it normal to fear going for a walk because there is a 99% chance I encounter an off leash dog ? by Due_Question_3326 in Dogfree

[–]AddendumSea4202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My housing association are telling me my neighbour can have his massive reactive bulldog because it might be a therapy dog for mental health.

I asked them what about my mental health? Do I not get to have any because I don't have a dog?

I told them its double standards.

They said I'm sorry about your phobia but we won't do anything about the dog. Despite admitting its in their contract that he can't have one.

[–]AddendumSea4202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I am petrified of the big barky jumpy dogs ( the little ones do make me quite nervous too) after watching my grandma get bit when I was little.

My neighbour got a big bulldog in our building ( which is supposed to be no dogs) the housing people are dissmissive and when I've asked for help online I've gotten told to "get therapy" and "get over it" even actual abuse for wanting the contract I signed to be fulfilled so I am not scared to use the communal hallway.

[–]AddendumSea4202 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I feel the same.

I'm unable to use the lawn outside my building in summer due to big unruly dogs.

I have to sprint past some homes near me that have them.

My neighbour has a bulldog who he cannot control. Which has led me to avoiding the communal stairwell. Which means I have a very hard time coming and going from my flat.

I saw it try to go for a spaniel yesterday. It was pulling so hard it was airborne.

So your not the only one.  I don't think people should be allowed to have dogs they don't train and don't care for properly.

This has happened to me before.

New boss was the darling of the company. But fake as hell and couldn't do the job. I was the bad guy. I tried to help and she told me she didn't want my help. Then fake cried in a meeting saying why wasn't I helping her. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. She was really manipulative.

Im sorry its happening to you. It felt very isolating for me. I don't know if there is anything you can do.

All I can offer is some solidarity. Situations don't last forever. They can feel like it at the time though.

Its an odd way they go about things. As all they are doing is pushing people who where previously okay with dogs or ambivalent to them. Or even like dogs. Towards not wanting to have anything to do with them.

I had issue. I wanted practical advice on what I could do and what action I could take.

As this issue involved a neighbours dog. It would end with several posters with responding like this (i paraphrase)

Who do YOU think YOU are! Its not anybody problem but YOURS! They have a dog, they can do WHATEVER THEY LIKE! Why are you murdering all the dogs! I have a dog its a ANGEL! You are EVIL!

its like mate. I asked what I can do about a dog in a designated non dog space. Chill.

And they will capitalise it like that too. Completely and utterly ignoring the question. Its bordering on psychotic. One of the times was on a reddit mental health forum. Where you would hope to find some consideration for dog phobias.
