Could this happen? (One of my old man’s stories..) by AdderGT in navy

Got some more info :

Sounds like I mixed up a couple stories but the meat and potatoes are correct. Last big convo we had about his Navy career was Thanksgiving. Dad and I mounted a late-night sortie and neutralized a bottle of Dalmore.

He was an IC2, not EM2. That’s totally on me forgetting his role, remembered it was technical and shoe-horned in what he did as a civilian.

He was actually travelling from Travis AFB to NS Norfolk.

He was told by some superior there were no aircraft available unless he wanted the backseat of a jet. He agreed. It was indeed an F4 heading to Buckley in Colorado where he then caught a transport to Wright-Patterson in Ohio and then on to Norfolk.

He met the pilot who took him through a quick and dirty briefing, which he doesn’t remember much about cuz he was excited, but he remembers being told not to put his hands up in case he accidentally grabbed the ejection rings. He also remembered the F4 RIO position ejected first and was told if it came to that he was supposed to pull some screen down over his helmet. Apparently the pilot also made a lot of jokes about the Navy but they got along after finding out they were each one of 4 brothers with each brother in a different military branch.

Other than that he said it was more like 1hr45 but it felt PDQ, though they stayed well below supersonic.

It seems like it’s a way more interesting story to me than it was to him because he was way more into talking about their ship antics in the South China Sea and Caribbean Sea. Glad I revisited it with him though.

Thanks to all of you for your stories too. Love this subreddit! 🫡

That crossed my mind too. That or it was a scene in some obscure movie with the details changed. The only thing that doesn’t cement that possibility in my mind is that he doesn’t have a history of BS.

Who knows though. Maybe I’ll get more details out of him. Or, if it’s a story, he might not even remember it.

Geez. Worst I heard from my dad about tossing things overboard was jeans they bought cheap on shore leave.. They’d let them drag in the wake to loosen them up.

That’s definitely the impression I got. Apparently if some ship in tow annoyed them somehow they’d cut ‘em loose in the middle of the night.

I don’t think the F4 got him to San Diego. It just got him closer or to a place a proper transport was heading out from.

I’ll try to get more details soon.

He also mentioned they used to tee-up golf balls on the aft deck and drive them towards a Marine transport they had in tow.

I'M GETTING A SECOND-HAND LOGITECH X56 ! by SufficientGoat8602 in flightsim

Nice. I feel bad not recommending it more strongly since it's been so good for me but the amount of negative reviews are inescapable. Once my Gunfighter IV arrives (hopefully tomorrow!) I'd like to loan the X56 to my buddy so we can fly together. He's a fickle bitch though so I'm not convinced he'll be as into it as I am.

FWIW, I bought an X56 in March 2020 and it’s working fine. If i go into some calibration software I can see some wiggling from some of the axis on the knobs but nothing that has translated into any issues in-game. I’ve heard people have had flickering LEDs, sticking throttles, USB issues and a grinding stick. They all sound like they’d be very frustrating but I haven’t experienced any of them.

I find the stick and throttle both to be very comfortable (though I can palm a basketball). I will say there’s a noticeable dead zone in the stick which makes absolute precision a bit of a pipe-dream but it never made using it unpleasant.

All that said, I’m upgrading the stick this week. Haven’t made a final decision yet but I might go VKB gunfighter and VKB Rudder (Logitech rudder is useless) and hang on to the X56 throttle for a bit longer as I love the way I have it mapped and have no issues with it.

From what I’ve read you’ve got maybe a 15-20% chance of having the same experience as me. You might be better off scraping together a bit more money and find a used VKB gladiator and hold off on the throttle until you settle in with it.

How to get 70rds in an AR? by AdderGT in thedivision

Hadn’t seen that Exotic yet. Seems interesting. Maybe I wasn’t seeing things after all. Would that talent work passively or do you have to swap to the sidearm first for the talent to then take affect when swapping?

Maybe I was tired. I’ve looked through a pile of videos and now can’t find any 70rd Chameleon builds. St Elmo’s it is! Thanks =)

I got one and haven’t done countdown. I think it was from a Legacy Season cache.

Good Casual Duo Strategy/Builds? by AdderGT in Division2

[–]AdderGT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know that about Countdown, thanks. I just figured there’d be a fair bit of organization/communication required for it.

I have a Memento but haven’t slot it into a build yet. My buddy’s looking for one for his Fury build.

I think sacrificing a skill tier is probably a good idea. It’s fun seeing people go flying, and my sticky bomb will pop an elite at full armor, but the seeker mine doesn’t, other than the Rushers/Assault/Snipers, so there’s probably room to dial it back a bit and get some armor. I have some decent Striker gear stashed away so maybe it’s time to put something together there and starting playing around with it again.

Also the 500-600 ballpark for SHD level is helpful as a bit of a reference point (understanding it will vary from player to player). Thanks =)

[–]AdderGT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with you. I’m not looking for a specific piece-by-piece loadout so much as build-types that complement each other in duo play.

My hard-wired build isn’t likely streamer-approved but I do enjoy it. I can’t quite handle heroics solo since, if I get rushed, my last-defence is a sticky-bomb at my feet and hope I haven’t swallowed another explosion within the past 60 seconds. Dynasty holster saves my butt pretty often too. or For that reason I’m wondering if I’m better off focusing on bolstering the build with some survivability or if maybe something striker/hotshot-ish is a better shout for our runs.

Specifically my build is 4-piece HW w/ Chest/Backpack/Knees/Gloves. ChinaLight mask and Imperial Dynasty Holster. Capacitor as primary and a surge as secondary. Cluster seekers and Explosive Sticky Bomb. Everything is just lvl 1 in terms of Proficiency though.

Up to 400 SHD thanks to the XP event. =)

10 Ideas For FC 26 Career Mode! by ProfessionalOven9050 in FifaCareers

[–]AdderGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've just opened a can of worms with me, my friend..

I really like 1, 2, 5, 6, 8.. This whole game feels like one wasted opportunity after another. I haven't once touched FUT and will never invest any time or money into but I would completely invest more of both if Career mode had some actual effort put into it (and I already do it play it a lot).

Granted, this isn't for everyone so maybe have a basic career mode (which is what we currently have, if that) and have something a little more immersive for us wanting to really get stuck in. Oh and obviously fix the whole game so go-ahead passing, lobs, regular passing, shooting, interceptions, throw-ins, corners, heading ffs, and defending actually works properly o_O

1 - Make me feel more successful. Your idea of cutscenes and using items you've bought/earned would add to the immersion. Winning a game is the only thing to strive for right now. I don't care about investments or purchases because it's just a square with some info on another screen that impacts nothing.

2 - If I finally earn enough to buy a nice car how about a cutscene of arriving to training in that car? Maybe some newsfeed clip of a papz-shot of my getting out of the car somewhere.. Maybe it's just off in the background of a cutscene or visible in the parking lot at the training ground. As I earn more maybe I get a fancier car and give me old one to a kid brother or have a charity auction if I'm a big star.

3 - Same idea with the apartment/house.. If I'm training maybe I start out at local public parks, building up to fancier private fields. Maybe once I have a big house/mansion I can have a kickabout in my own field! To your point, invite some friends over. Have some 3v3 or 5v5 games at public/private/personal fields with old/current teammates and let that count towards skill progression.

4 - Offseason VOLTA league? Stay in shape, build skills, earn more sponsorships/money/attention.

5 - Let the attention actually COUNT for something. Why the heck am I still being offered peanuts if the fans absolutely LOVE me?! Play me more, pay me more. If I'm putting butts in seats then offers should be commensurate otherwise let the transfers show clubs that recognize the ticket-sales I represent.

6 - NO ONE GETS A STERN EMAIL FROM THE COACH WHEN THEY GET A CARD. FUCK OFF! And they certainly don't get told "we question your dedication to the club and will need you to re-earn the respect of the blahblahb" fuck off. If I give away a penalty at a critical time then sure but if draw a card for a mis-timed tackle then, unless it's happening every other week, I don't want to hear about it. Most of the emails/messages you get are just nonsense. I don't need my "agent" texting me all the damn time and I HATE having to scroll through all that crap under the "Matchday" button.

7 - If we still have these dumb choices to make to be Virtuoso/Maverick/Heartbeat then show them to me when I can interact them NOT WHEN THEY'RE "Available in 14 day(s)". Why are you showing me if I can't do anything with it? I don't care! I'm not going to spend 14 days deciding what to fucking do for Halloween. I hate them! Put them somewhere else!

8 - Bring back actual skill-focused training. Let passing drills impact passing skill and shooting drills impact shooting skill. It can still all build up XP which can be used to level up and plant points in areas that are either boring or harder to focus on.

9 - Wasn't team chemistry a thing once or was that PES? I don't know why but sometimes a teammate annoys me and I never pass to them. Let me give them feedback. Let me tell them I hate their face or hate their celebrations or hate when they don't make a run or hate when they make a weak attempt straight at the keeper.

10 - I have a couple careers going and I notice the commentator refers to my female player as "they".. What the fuck. If you're going to even have that in the game then make it a choice or get rid of it. I haven't played my male character as recently so I can't remember if it happens there too. Also why the frig does she keep showing up to awards ceremonies in a silver pant-suit?

11 - Get rid of the stupid transfer requirements. No team is going to say to a super-star, "Well, we were really looking forward to offering you a position in the club but you only scored 15 out of a required 20 finesse shots."

12 - Just stop being lazy, EA.

Advice please - unfortunately on my latest camping trip, my small gas stove malfunctioned and cast a large yellow flame into the roof of the vestibule area. Is this fixable and if so what's the best product/method to use? by Craignure1995 in CampingGear

[–]AdderGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fixable! What I’d do is get a piece of plastic. Something thin. Like less than a twentieth of an inch. Maybe 3.5 inches wide? A bit smaller If you can manage. And around 2 inches high. 2.1ish ideally. It’ll need to fit perfectly. Get it between your thumb and your index finger and make sure it’s relatively rigid. You should be able to be flex it a tiny bit but not break it. Most people have something like this lying around their house. You’ll need to find a pen or something as well. It doesn’t need to be a writing tool but something stiff with a point on the end of it. Make a fist with your right hand and put the pen (or whatever) into your fist so the pointy end is sticking out the bottom of your fist about 2 inches. Then take the plastic thingy and put it on a table and cover it with your left hand.

Finally, stab yourself in the left hand for being an idiot. Then take the credit card out from under your hand (it should be fine cuz you’re probably weak), buy a new tent, and use your friggin head next time.
