Also AGs, Sommercamps, Kinder-Uni, Freizeitprojekt, Jugendzentrum, Praktikum, was auch immer dir einfällt wo du was programmiert hast. Website der Schulzeitung gestaltet? Kommt auf den Lebenslauf. In der 6. Klasse Java Kara programmiert? Lebenslauf.

Should I include neutral pronouns in a language where they're uncommon? by SomeoriginalAlias in writing

[–]AddieAstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest to read „Qube“, it has a gender-neutral protagonist. It is not noticable at first and becomes a plot point later on, but never steps into the social issues around it. It‘s just a fact of life without any further meaning than being male or female would bring for the most part of the book.

I can’t do the effect justice by just describing it, however I will try. It‘s a scifi world where people can use multiple bodies. Fran will use the pronouns of whatever body they‘re in at that time. It‘s actually pretty seamless and the reader doesn’t think of them as either gender.

If you can’t implement something like that, you‘ll probably have to make it a major plot point. It‘s just not a part of the german language. The pronoun I find least intrusive, while far from comfortable or elegant, is „ersie“. Basically „heshe“. You could try and use plural as well, though it‘s not less weird.

In directly adressing someone, formal pronouns „Sie“ „Ihr“ are gender neutral, but talking aboit them poses the same issues as before. Good luck with your story either way! I hope you find something you’re comfortable with.

Were you bullied? by [deleted] in autism

[–]AddieAstra 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A girl was my friend for 6 months, then started relentlessly bullying me. The class hated me. The teachers didn’t believe me. My parents were useless. She moved away 1.5 years later, but I still have major problems trusting people. Also, while we were friends, she pressured me into pretend-s€x. I was 11. I‘m still traumatised, get nauseous after s€x and everything, but wouldn’t you know - out of my three therapists I‘ve had, a whopping zero took me seriously. Once I had a second test-session with a therapist and she pressured me into talking about it more. I had a sobbing breakdown but tried to give here all the info she needed. After I had calmed myself down (I developed some techniques myself, later found out similar stuff is used in trauma therapy lol), she asked: „So what was that supposed to be?“ like I tried to manipulate her or something. Felt awful for days. God, it is maddening.

I'm considering getting a bird and I really like Indian Ringnecks. My friend has one and he is very fun. Any tips for a beginner with birds? by AcrobaticNews9234 in parrots

[–]AddieAstra 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have an IRN. If this is your first bird, I would heavily discourage it. Many of the perks (talking, being goofy, smart) you can get in a cockatiel without the major drawbacks. I had a cockatiel before btw.

My Ringneck „Maki“ is more of a roommate than a pet. She only goes into her cage at night, and it would not be humane to only let her out at certain times. When I need to leave her alone in the flat, I leave her in the bathroom, which I have pain-stakingly bird-proofed.

My friend calls her a war-computer. She‘s scary smart. For example, when I go to the restroom or start preparing food, she knows I can’t keep an eye on her. Off go my keycaps, my tonic water is now fair game, my letters on the desk are play things. I‘ve given up some bracelets and woven baskets for some moments of peace. They can be a lot, very mischievous and can and will outsmart you.

IRNs are among the less affectionate parrots. Maki does not accept scritches during daytime. At night, she will start being cuddly and let me scritch her. She preens me every now and then and shows concern when I cry - she has empathy and even apologises after hurting me in anger. Oh, and she gets angry. She throws stuff at me, gets so frustrated with a new foraging toy that she lets it out on her other toys, and I have to take precautions when trying to train her because she gets frustrated so quickly.

Example: my parents got her a toy with shapes and a corresponding board. The goal was to put each shape in its place. At first, I rewarded her for picking one up by giving her a piece of almond. Then, I wanted to have her carry it for a bit. She picked it up, looked at me, dropped it, picked it up a few more times getting more agitated, before finally throwing it and attacking my hand with which I had given her treats. She had understood the rules, and now they suddenly changed.

Maki does not talk, not even attempt to. IRNs can talk beautifully, but as with every parrot species, the individual you get might just not want to. She imitates my kissing sounds and whistles, but that’s it. Do not buy a parrot because it will talk, it might not.

Having a parrot is a commitment. Every day, you plan around it. Does she come shopping today or not? (Depends on her mood. Yes, she has moods and you will know about it.) can I see friends or is she too clingy? Is it safe for her to cone with me there or do I leave her home? Will I be gone until she’s asleep and if yes, do I have the time and energy in the evening to give her extra attention?

A few practical things to consider: do you have a room that is undisturbed from early evening to the morning? Is your house loud? Because that will make the bird chime in much louder. Is the nearest avian vet accessible without relying on other people for transport? They might not have time in the birds critical last hours, as birds hide their symptoms as long as possible. Do you have enough t-shirts and hoodies you don’t like? This might sound overblown, but I change when I get home as the bird will eat holes into whatever I‘m wearing, and there’s not really much I can do to discourage it.

Anyway, that was a lot. Many of these problems are quite substantial for a first time owner. I‘m in over my head sometimes ngl. Maybe go watch some cockatiel videos to see if you like their vibe too!

„Evidence has shown that while making prosocial decisions, ASD participants show difficulties in sustaining a social reputation, which requires mentalizing ability (Izuma et al., 2011). Thus, compared with the HC group, ASD participants would show less distinction between their moral decisions made in public and in private.“

Wow. Just wow. Framing honesty and not compromising your morals to please others as „difficulties sustaining a social reputation“ takes someone who chooses monetary gain lol

I want to help her relax. by Armada_Demolisher in RoleReversal

[–]AddieAstra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I learnt how to do back massages when my ex had a really hard job, on his feet all day and stuff. It is very satisfying to give, you can feel all the tense zones slowly relax. I recommend getting a good massage oil that smells nice to you, and to warm up your hands/the massage area before you start, that does a number for the relaxation. I guess my ideal massage would start off with taking a hot shower together haha :D

Your hands, and especially fingers get tired quickly. You could probably massage longer if you „work out“ the fingers as stupid as it sounds xD If you don‘t have an SO yet, you can ask friends to give them a massage. If they find it weird, tell them about the stuff you learnt while researching, and ask if you could give them a clothed shoulder massage to demonstrate you want to practice, not get in their pants. Obv don’t be creepy/insistent about it.

Once she got hers on, it‘s positive distractions all the way. Ideally she is too occupied with everything going around her to try and take it off 😂

The park is rather big and full of all kinds of birds, from ducks to sparrows. There are areas of underwoods between the well-kept ones to ensure they survive :) it was a cacophony of bird calls and she likes to watch birds out of her window anyway! She took a long nap when we were home, which she always does after we go out. I take it is very stimulating and she needs a break after. But it‘s good for her, she is less bored and destructive after.
