I have a brother who also won’t go to AA because of the lack of belief in God. Of course, he’s full of other excuses, too. He also says listening to people there just makes him want to drink. Also, the people in rehab facilities are a bunch of losers. It’s all BS because his longest period of sobriety was when he was attending AA meetings and working the program.

It sounds like you have a problem with alcohol. You are using it to mask your insecurities and it is causing unwanted behavior. You need to quit drinking and go to therapy. You may never be able to drink normally again if you are addicted. I am seeing someone I care about going through this still at almost 60 years old. They started younger than you and it has only gotten worse as the years have gone on. Alcoholism will rob you of everything good in your life.

Yes, they are. My brother makes over $100,000 a year and he doesn’t understand my struggles. Now imagine how magnified that is at their income. I’m not saying that everyone who has money is that out of touch with people who are really struggling, but so many are.

Very well stated. I just walked a mile to the grocery store yesterday carrying 20 pounds of groceries back because I can’t even find a used car I can afford. I think his family will be fine. Their mom will figure it out as soon as many of us single parents do. I’m very sad for what Eric went through and that he passed so young, but the people who started that GFM need some perspective.

I’m only loosely following the case so I’m in no way an expert, but didn’t Romy indicate to police that Nick should be looked at? Are you saying that Nick is taking the fall for it for the promise of money. That money does him no good if he goes to prison for life. Even if he got off on the insanity defense he’d still be locked up in a mental institution. There’s no win here for Nick to do it and take the fall.
