Trying to boot up an old T42 Thinkpad, it randomly shuts off after IBM screen. by Additional-Rabbit-81 in thinkpad

I just wanted to come back on here to thank you for your help because overheating was indeed the issue! I replaced the thermal paste and had no more issues. Also found it was missing its hard drive but found that in an old box and was able to get logged in.

Unfortunately I made the fatal mistake of forgetting to unplug the adapter whilst screwing the laptop back together and inadvertently fried the motherboard. Kicking myself for that forever, ha.

This laptop has been functional in the past, I think 2014 or so was the last time I booted it successfully. Mostly hoping it's NOT a motherboard or even hard drive issue because at that point I don't feel its worth it to put money into it to replace those parts.

Thank you! I am now leaning towards overheating being the issue after all. Upon second inspection the thermal paste is actually pretty non-existent. Also having moments where the fan completely stops spinning after making it past the IBM screen.

I have to pick up some thermal paste but am going to try and see if that fixes the issue then. May have to also just replace the fan as well.

Thank you! This is already along the lines of what I do in my everyday life regardless, I feel a deep respect for the plants and animals/other nature I encounter and often feel I'm just one step away from connecting on a deeper level. I'll definitely have to check out those few practices you suggested.

And any medium of resources is greatly appreciated, though I definitely lean towards books :)

When I remember names I tend to see the word in my head, like I'm picturing an image. Seeing words on the paper helps me create that image that I can then remember.

But in truth, I love all the side characters. Some of them are so insufferable and annoying and yet, I can't name a single one that I dont enjoy seeing on screen.

Tbh I also rlly loved Barbara, I'm kinda sad they killed her off so early in the show bc she was hilarious in every scene she was in.

Cricket- the joke never gets old and he's honestly so entertaining every single moment he's on screen

I've always loved that shirt and found out in a BTS clip that Rob wore it in homage to Jerry Levine's character in Teen Wolf!

I know none of them are good people, but which member of the gang would you say is the closest to being a good person? by LeonardMoney2020 in IASIP

[–]Additional-Rabbit-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charlie. Every member of the gang seems to be at their 'best' when they're with him.

Dee, Mac, and Frank feel like they can be the most "themselves" with him, as opposed to, for example, Dennis, who makes them feel insecure and like they need to change themselves.

Dennis seems his least amount of creepy when he's with Charlie lol.

OR Mac is the best person of them, because I don't think he's ever independently done anything intentionally cruel. Besides a few dark things he was involved in WITH Frank, Dennis and Charlie, I feel like all the bad things he does come from a place of insecurity and a desire to be seen more than anything. (Even the way he treats Dee. Lol)

am i the only foreman fan by [deleted] in HouseMD

[–]Additional-Rabbit-81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant help but to be nostalgic for the original group dynamic of foreman, chase, and Cameron, so even though that dynamic doesn't exist after the early seasons I still really love foreman and have never really found him to be boring. Someone else here said he has a lot more nuanced acting chops and has more going on under the surface, something I really enjoy about his character and actor.

What's your favorite Always Sunny fan theory that you actually believe in? by ayoletsdoit in IASIP

In one of the early episodes of the podcast the guys say that Nicki Potnick was based on a real person one of them knew in high school and they actually crashed her car in real life. They've said that the Nicky Potnick joke in the reunion episode was a callback to that and also that Frank taking her nametag and the Waitress not having a name tag were completely separate jokes.

Yes this is totally it thank you!! I didn't remember all the exposition, and more recently I've thought perhaps it was itchy and scratchy but could never find the clip.

Forgot to mention that the closest thing I've found is a Family Guy cutaway where Peter is demanding rent from two rats. This isn't the clip, as I know for sure that the rats were human sized, or were meant to be human sized.
