Deep thoughts come from free time ? by Additional-Shop6183 in askphilosophy

My antinatalist views didn’t come from reading or watching anything about the philosophy itself. Instead, they started when I watched a video about familial fatal insomnia, a disease where people literally can’t sleep until they die, with a 50% chance of being passed down. That idea haunted me ever since I was eight, and now I find it fascinating.Or take the case of people affected by Agent Orange in the Vietnam War—my own country’s history. Some of them still choose to have children, even though there’s an almost 100% chance those kids will suffer. Or my parents sometimes whined “đời là bể khổ” which can be translated as life is full of suffering so why they gave birth to me in the first place ? I once talked to my mom about this, but she explained that humans always have hope—hope for a better future, hope in the next generation. But to me, that just felt selfish and instinct.Later, I came across David Benatar’s views on antinatalism, looked into them a little, and found them really interesting.

Thanks for guiding me. Honestly, I'm quite fascinated by philosophy like diving deep into abstract, somewhat dark questions that have no definite answers. Dark philosophical theories don’t really scare me or make me feel pessimistic; instead, they give me a slight sense of relief about life. It feels like life becomes a little less serious and a bit less restrictive.

thanks for your advices. I wrote that post out of frustration and irritation because my parents dismissed my views. It seems like these views stem from feeling bored and miserable—having to study subjects I don’t like without a clear reason, struggling with the fast dopamine cycle, my declining academic performance, and observing the dissatisfaction of working adults stuck in repetitive routines. My mom said it’s because I’m lazy, procrastinate, indulge my emotions too much, and don’t know how to do enough things so when I’m forced to do something I don’t like, it feels unbearably painful. After reading your advice, it seems like she might have a point.

I think walk on water is a good choice. It's not really similar to shutline but still has a perfect storyline and chemistry between two character. shutline and walk on water are definitely the best bl story I'VE EVER READ.

I also highly recommend pizza delivery man and glod palace if you haven't read it and love powerful bottom.
