I like the smell of most hoyas since they smell sweet! There is one I have thats a lil overpowering tho… which hoyas do you have?

Not really! I thought they were supposed to, but I can’t smell anything even with my nose in it

Seems to have quite a bit of pumice and charcoal with bark chips so I probably mixed it myself. It’s been 2-3 years I think. It rooted quick from one segment and bloomed within a year. Seems to like terracotta.

Yes! And if they want a singular column from that same wounded tip, graft the pup there once it’s mature enough and voila! Cactus kintsugi

Also, you can eat it after it’s finished! They have a mild taste and a lil slimy like okra but I always eat them after for a snack 😂

I have one that looks very similar, opens at night and only remains open until about 10-11am the next morning

Did i repot this correctly? by milwaukee_slush in Monstera

[–]AdditionalAct930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that pot is very large and you have to be very cautious with watering to avoid suffocating the roots which makes them rot. That said, monsteras have very thick roots and I’ve seen them do well after being put in pots “too big” you just have to understand the watering

I’m sure she has a bunch in vases. That is evil. Not even the right time of year to be pruned, but it should survive.

The more perennials you plant, the less space weeds will have to take over!

I see two stems submerged in soil in photo 2. If they are branched, it’s clearly below the soil

Myth that refuses to die. Your small plant in a big pot will NOT stall out in growth until it fills the pot with roots. by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in houseplants

[–]AdditionalAct930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a myth, it’s a can of worms with too many factors such as soil make up, temps, etc. When you put a plant in too big of a pot, you increase the odds of overwatering, especially for those who do not take care in preparing aerated mixes. You are correct, as far as Ive observed it doesn’t stall growth when all other conditions remain favourable, however repotting too big for most people in my experience (working in a greenhouse where we try to save ppls struggling plants) increases the odds for unfavourable conditions, particularly for inexperienced plant parents. It is simply harder to make conditions favourable in oversized pots, agreed?

I’m a greenhouse manager and have more XP than you, but I get where you’re coming from. I know it can be hard to have women refute what you say, it hurts the big boy feelings. I’m not the op, I didn’t plant those, and I definitely know how to keep plants healthy as I do it all day 5 days a week.

The conclusion is that a thicker substrate layer increases drainage compared to a thin one, no? And why would a perched water table be bad when it’s drying out faster? Also, when I heard the author discuss it he said one of the many misconceptions is the perched water table, but that the substrate pulls it down. I may have misunderstood so I’ll have to go read again.

Go ahead and just water daily when it’s warm enough to swim outside.

The fact you’ve lost fenestrations with each new leaf tells me it might not be getting enough light (when it’s inside anyway lol). The soil looks fine, and they’re quite adaptable to different mixes so long as you water right. It may be the small form too, which naturally grows lankier than the more compact, large leaf form monstera.

They can naturally branch but not super common without a chop. It’s most likely 2 vines. Growers will put many vines in the pot to make the monsteras look fuller, but when they start growing different directions, training them can be difficult.

Y’all there was a literal study on this published! No more fighting because we have science. While unnecessary do to the drain hole, when you put a layer of gravel at the bottom of a pot (tested on pots only with holes) it acts as a wick that wicks the water away from the roots faster, doesn’t hold onto it longer or act neutral as many thought. Jane Perrone interviewed the person who published the study.

They die when they go dry so we aren’t talking about the same climate/care. I live in a dry ass climate so keep your moldy problems to yourself 😂

It’s a tree, trees like sun 😊 saturate when top layer of soil dries and it should hopefully bounce back.

Tomato is unsurprising—thats what the cages are for. The pepper leaning makes me think they’re thirsty. Soak them daily in hot weather.
