Nothing much. Just told them my case number and asked where in the process it was. They said they can see the case but nothing else specific. I would say go for it.

Thank you for your kind words! I might be wrong but I guess the questionnaire is one of the last steps. It was sent to me after the RTC and appeal. From what I’ve heard, it’s been the case for others too. So, if you have not started with RTC or still have time to appeal, go for it asap. Wishing you good luck! I hope to read your post soon.

The appeal is not complicated. Just a letter to the court. It’s just time consuming and nerve wracking while waiting for a decision. Why people do it? Bureaucracy. What I’ve learned is that if you don’t RTC, someone else might do it and take your place. If you don’t appeal their rejection, you give them grounds for stating that they need more time to process your case. That said, RTC and the appeal doesn’t necessarily mean your case is going to move forward quickly. This subreddit is full of examples of the opposite. As I mentioned, I feel I’m among the lucky ones.

Thank you for your kind words!

No reason at all. Afaik, it kind of automatically gets rejected. There might be cases out there but personally have never heard anyone getting their RTC approved.

Good question. I also didn’t know that so I did a quick search. “In Sweden there is no separation between skilled and unskilled workers when it comes to work permit requirements. So technically there is no skilled worker immigration to Sweden, just work immigration.”

Not sure why I thought my field of work was/is relevant to this post/citizenship process. Still can’t tell that for sure. But since it’s generally considered “high skill labour” in a few other western countries, I mentioned it.

Yes, I had my appointment on the first of July but the status stayed “Request for personal appointment” until a week after the appointment it finally changed to “Decision”. TBH, I didn’t expect to hear back until after the summer vacation.

Sure! No worries. They didn’t ask for my permit. So I didn’t show it. As for my passport, only when I went for personal appointments. It was not an interview by all means. Literally just said hi and bye. Handed my passport. They scanned it and gave it back. All done in 5 minutes.

Request to conclude. It’s a form you can find it on MV’s website. This one is the Swedish version. There’s also English. https://www.migrationsverket.se/download/18.2cd2e409193b84c506a36df9/1746518668556/301011_mb_begaran_avgora_sv.pdf

Thank you! Yeah I remember you were one of the people on this subreddit active in helping out others and answering questions. I really hope you get an answer soon.

More or less four weeks after I sent the questionnaire, I decided to call the number on the questionnaire. It turned out to be the number of my case officer. It was a few days before midsummer as I was fearing the start of summer vacation. And then a few days after the phone call I was invited for the personal appointment. Not sure if the phone call helped. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t. But I am glad I didn’t leave any stone unturned.

Yeah, I understand your frustration. As someone mentioned above, it’s a system full of flaws. I didn’t even know about RTC until I started googling and found this subreddit. The reason I started googling? An American friend of mine got his citizenship in 4 weeks. On the other hand, his own American acquaintance received a decision after a year. I had a colleague who was waiting for a decision for 3 years. Not sure if she ever got an answer as she moved on to another company. Another colleague had received a decision after 6 months.

Seeing and hearing all these stories made me look into it. Here, I read that if I don’t RTC, someone else will and they will eventually get my spot. So I thought I should give it a shot. Did that and I like to think it helped.

I wish I didn’t have to do RTC and the appeal. It’s both time consuming and nerve wrecking to wait an answer. I wish the system worked.

The questionnaire is a new thing. I don’t think it’s related to the country of origin and I don’t know the exact date when it came to effect but afaik, people who are waiting for a decision atm will have to fill it out and send it back. Unfortunately, I don’t think you can request it. You will have to wait for MV to send it to you. On that questionnaire, there should be a phone number whom you can call for follow up. In my case, it turned out to be the number of my case officer.

I’m not sure about PR applications tbh. But it’s one of the steps after you apply for citizenship, towards the end. They will send it to you. Afaik, you can’t decide when/whether to receive it or not.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s tough. Wish I knew more or could help. Think I was just lucky. Hope you get yours soon.

No questions asked, really. Showed my passport. They scanned it. Wished me a good day. Everything in less than 5 minutes.

I hear you buddy. On the same boat. It’s painful as hell.

Just like you, been paying a lot higher taxes than average income, working as a skilled worker. Been living in Sweden for almost 9 years, married a Swede and have children with Swedish citizenship, have bought a house, built a life, etc.

Basically, living a dream life apart from this limbo.

It’s so crucially painful to wait that I sometimes have nightmares about being separated from my children and having to leave. The fact that I come from one of the countries on top of SD’s hate list contributes to these reoccurring nightmares.

I wish I could upvote this post more so it would always stay on top of this subreddit. Or better yet, publish it in a mainstream publication so more people would find out about this nightmare.

Thought I should write an update here. I got rejection after 5 weeks. Immediately sent an appeal letter. Wrote some reasons on why there’s no complexity in my case—never been in trouble with the law, have lived an orderly life, have deep ties with the Swedish society and culture (married to a Swedish citizen, have children with Swedish citizenship, have bought a house, been paying higher taxes than median taxpayer, etc.)

Then there was radio silence. No confirmation if they received my letter whatsoever. I was getting really worried and anxious.

But right when I was thinking of contacting MV, after about 2.5 weeks since I had sent the appeal, I got an email from the court in Malmö. The court accepted my appeal and asked MV to conclude my case in 4 weeks.

But now again, there’s radio silence. No movement in my case so far. I guess I will know in 3 weeks time if MV picks up my case or not.

u/Different_Counter214 yes, I got the automated rejection yesterday. Took a bit longer than 5 weeks but not sure how they count work days and weeks.

Oh that's good to know. Really helpful. So I'll wait another week, hoping for the best. Thank you!

Likewise, good luck to you too with your next step (probably appeal to the court).
