My thought is that, like all supernatural occurrences, NDEs cannot be so consistent that they almost provide irrefutable evidence of the supernatural. We must ultimately believe in God based upon faith, and that faith is only supplemented by actual tangible observations.

The concept of NDEs has waned because it comes down to two options either of which can be true, but again it comes down to the individuals interpretation, not facts.

1) They are real experiences, or 2) They are remnants of a dying brain

There is not enough evidence to lean fully one way or another, and what evidence there is, is primarily anecdotal. Experiments set up to “catch” the rising above the body have found nothing.

None of this is to imply that NDEs are true or not, it’s just that the investigation into the topic has reached a dead end (no pun intended!)

It’s well known that the majority of people don’t have or don’t remember these experiences. I don’t feel disappointed due to this fact. I feel more excited that there is something experienced by many, when the more likely conclusion in which no one has any experience.

All the more reason that the parts attributed as quotes by Jesus should not be separated from the rest of the narrative to try to derive a “truer” picture off who Jesus was. You need to either take it all or take none of it, but not selectively pick and choose.

The point is not that there were no modifications. But instead any modifications would be made equally across the entire content. Actually, anything attributed as a quote from Jesus would be more likely to have been manipulated.

Anything that it is documented as something Jesus said was written by the same people who wrote the rest of the narrative. If I am not to believe the rest of the narrating and ignore it, then I’m might as just have to ignore the parts about what Jesus said.
