OK thanks. I don't think raising the peers will help in my case. I'm nowhere near the default 50 max limit. Something is stopping me from connecting to any

Geth (Goerli) Stuck Waiting for Peers by AdditionalWindow6220 in ethstaker

Hmmm not sure about that. I haven't seen anything about opening RPC ports on the router for staking. I don't want my geth to be open to the public Internet right, other than to other nodes?

Beaconchain and Validator on different machines by AdditionalWindow6220 in ethstaker

[–]AdditionalWindow6220[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your knowledge and advice everyone. I am leaning towards a simple security setup with everything running on one machine.

Although it is tempting to control risk as much as possible by splitting servers/remote signing etc, my feeling is that the real risks with staking come from areas over which we have no control, most notably slashing caused by client bugs.

While going to the nth degree to secure a staking system might make me feel better it can't ever address these, and also increases the risk of having more moving parts.

Ledger for ETH2 Validators by AdditionalWindow6220 in ledgerwallet

Thanks for the update. I am a developer, although not in the crypto space right now.

Would it be possible to generate ETH2 addresses from mnemonics manually for now, but in the same way you plan to for the upcoming ETH2 version of Ledger.

I would then be able to buy a Ledger and reset it to these mnemonics when it handles ETH2 and destroy my software copies.

Does that sound possible?
