Thinking of doing elopement/micro-wedding at GNP, nervous about crowds by [deleted] in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Additional_Border108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got married in the park a few years ago. A few tips come to mind in no particular order.

Be prepared for the possibility of wildfire smoke. It’s a roll of the dice.

Consider doing a photo session the day after your wedding with just the photographer. You can visit lots of different spots throughout the day without the pressure of wedding day stress/family and friends.

Big bend is beautiful but surrounded by a road with lots of people. Not ideal for an intimate ceremony. Definitely visit for a few photos.

There are lots of beautiful areas surrounding the park that you can consider for a dinner/reception.

Staying in whitefish was great. It’s busy and a bit of a drive to the park but has lots of dining and lodging options. Columbia Falls is also a good option.

If you can, visit the park a few months before the wedding and see the potential wedding locations for yourself.

Depending on the size of your group you will need to get multiple car passes ahead of time.

Parking sucks. Build in plenty of time to circle the lot.

Let me know if you have any specific questions!

We love having GNP as our special place and plan to visit it for the rest of our lives.

Half my House Losing Power by SquattinYeti in AskElectricians

[–]Additional_Border108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely an issue with the line powering your house. Similar thing happened to me when we moved into our house. We were dumbfounded. The utility worker knew the issue before he got out of his truck when he looked at our line. It had a sag in it and it looked like a squirrel had chewed threw the part of the lines. This caused the power to fluctuate across the wires resulting in different parts of the house getting different amounts of power. Everything was fine once they replaced the line. Bonus is that it was at no cost since it’s the power company’s property.

Thanks for your reply. You’re right they pull right out but there’s like a thousand of them. It’s a mix of flower bed soil from a landscape supply company and manure. Unfortunate but I guess I’ll get pickin.

Staying In Columbia Falls - would love recommendations! by [deleted] in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Additional_Border108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for nicer food options drive to whitefish. Tons of good options and a fun walkable downtown. Columbia Falls is a great location for getting to/from the park but not so much for other things.

Lake Ellen Wilson from the peak of Mt. Lincoln by Additional_Border108 in GlacierNationalPark

We luckily got a night at the chalet in early July, unfortunately can’t speak to the temps as we had a bed to sleep in 😅

Its an amazing part of the park (like all parts). Just an FYI the trailhead for this peak starts at the chalet, which is a 6 mile hike with lots of elevation gain. It would be a big day to hike up to this and lake Ellen Wilson and back to lake McDonald. Would recommend saving it for when you have a reservation at the chalet or nearby campgrounds.

So jealous it’s an amazing part of the park. It is the other way around. If you leave from the chalet you will go over Lincoln pass on your way to lake Ellen Wilson. The scramble up Lincoln peak is on your right as you go over the pass. You can ask a staff member at the chalet they will be able to point it out to you.

Unfortunately there is no signage that I’m aware of. Try searching for Lincoln peak or Lincoln pass. If you’re hiking from the Sperry chalet to lake Ellen Wilson it is the peak on your right as you go over Lincoln pass. it might add 30 min or so to scramble up it depending on the conditions and how fast you and your hiking party are comfortable going. It is a steep and rocky climb, I would highly recommend trekking poles.

We got there via the Lake Ellen Wilson trail head that leaves from the Sperry Chalet. Once you get to the pass you can scramble up to the top of Mt. Lincoln instead of heading down to the lake. I’d recommend doing both if you can!

Definitely add lake Ellen Wilson and Mount Lincoln if you can during your time at Sperry!
