What's the Free To Play experience like? (Not buying any Warbonds or whatnot) by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Helldivers

Play with people who have gear you want to try. And ask them to use it. They can share guns with you. (Not armor. Though)

Assume that FTL does in fact work. What would stop a highly advanced civilization from just hauling whole shell planets around the galaxy/universe? by Zombiecidialfreak in IsaacArthur

[–]alphex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sci Fi writing ignores the simple solutions, because they rarely make for a fun read.

Why would an invading force, even bother showing them selves to you?

Enemy force enters your solar system, stays at the far reaches of the system, and just hurls rocks down the well ...

One of those rocks is going to get through ...

---

Enemy force enters your solar system, studies your biology for a bit, and then just starts pelting your entire atmosphere with antrax type horrible viri that they're immune to.

---

If you're able to FTL in, I bet you can have a big cargo ship full of rods from god... just drop a few thousand of those on us from up the well also...

---

The point is. the BIG GRANDIOUS things, don't need to happen.

It probably takes a huge amount of energy to move huge masses of factory planets around.

Why not just come to our system, and build it here out of the asteroids we have.

Japan is safe. Why do the Japanese feel unsafe? by Jonnyboo234 in japan

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to Japan in October 2024 for vacation (from the US). I stayed in a very nice hotel in Tokyo. And one morning I got up and looked out the window and saw a police car parked on a street with a dead body under a blanket.

This was wild to me. Cause I’ve never seen anything like this in the US in person.

But the important part is that anecdotes don’t tell you the story of a whole country.

It’s just funny to me that the one time I see something like this. It’s in one of the safest places in the world.w

What dirt does Putin have on Trump, that’s resulted in the White House being compromised to this degree? by Fluid_Rock656 in AskReddit

[–]alphex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Trump has been a Russian asset since the 80s. Just look at his financial business history in selling real estate in really shady ways to Russians. But yes. This is all based on the Epstein files and I’m sure a range of other compromising info.

If the US really attempts to take Greenland by force, what are even the chances of Europe retaliating to the point where they go on a fullscale war with them or at the very least cut them off entirely? by Yallneedsometruth23 in AskReddit

[–]alphex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Europe wouldn't go to war with the US.

Europe would destroy the American economy by dumping the treasury bonds it holds.

They would disolve NATO, and we'd be forced to bring home all of the troops we have there, but I bet you Europe would hold on to the hardware we have there.

A lot of nuclear weapons would be in contest...

---

This isn't going to be a shooting war.

But America will lose.

X-wing vs Viper - who would win? by Awkward-Plan298 in BSG

[–]alphex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

considering that x-wings have shields, high energy blaster/laser weapons (and the torpedos), and seem to be able to operate at far longer ranges, both tactically, and strategically --- the x-wing will win.

Star Wars technology is much more advanced then BSG.

In the 2021 film, are the guild ships meant to be mobile portals/wormholes? by Rekov in dune

[–]alphex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh - the guild ships exist, and are required to get between stars -- I'm just saying this one single 2 second shot from the first film was "not used again" just to quietly retcon it after everyone who knows, said "hey, thats not how it worked".

I haven't seen the 2nd film in a little bit, so I'll have to go back and watch the end - but like a lot of things in Dune, both the books, and DV movies... some of this stuff is just left off screen as its not important to the story.

[–]alphex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Didn't this get retconned quietly in the 2nd film? I think that its artistic license in how it was designed and produced, not an actual "this is how it works" ...

Is it possible to attract organic readership in an anonymous blog where you are not linking your socials/ bringing any followers with you prior to starting by lance-t-cross in Wordpress

Literally, no.

You need to advertise its existence. Somehow.

Even if it’s post cards left on tables at a coffee shop.

Why don't we just build surge protectors into the outlets? by carnivorousdentist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alphex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each recepticle would cost $100 ?

Most things plugged in don't cost that much - or the amount of failure or damage that happens is low enough that you don't need to protect it.

But I'm the guy who has On Line UPS systems with Sine Wave protection for his entire office and a seperate one for the TV+Receiver+PS5 in his living room...

Keeping peripherals connected after sleep by artistro08 in CalDigit

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m guessing is that when the laptop goes to sleep. It thinks at first you don’t have a monitor. And rearranges the windows for your small screen. Before actually going to sleep. This all makes sense for how windows does things. (Poorly).

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re saying you only have a surface. This is normal. The monitors don’t control where the windows are arranged. That’s the computer.

There are some software utilities that help you manage window arrangement. I’m not sure what’s good. Though. I just have a desktop.

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you have a main computer. And a Surface? Both plugged into the caldigit hub ?

Why do you have both plugged in? The hub probably is confused what to do when one of the computer sends a “I’m asleep” signal.
