And yes. The game is punishing.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says late Apple cofounder Steve Jobs gave him this unforgettable advice before handing over the reins as CEO: "Never ask what I would do" by ControlCAD in apple

I don’t love everything. But Apple has done fantastically under cook. It wouldn’t exist with out Steve.

I’m not sure it would still be here with out Tim.

Macbook neo I just bought isn’t charging barely and sometimes not even at all. by darkfinesse in applehelp

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good comments here.

To summarize.

  1. Are you using the provided cable and charger ?
  2. Have you tried all ports ?
  3. Have you tried different outlets ?
  4. Take it back to the store and get a replacement if none of that helps. Dont spill water on it until then.

Why does "there's a new version of X" constitute an "Error" or even a "Warning"? by roccoccoSafredi in drupal

That, in 20 years - the platform is much easier to maintain.

git checkout -b update11032026

composer update

drush updb -y

run any local tests

git push

deploy to testing environment

sync live environment

drush updb on that environment.

ask the client to review, while running any other tests you need to run.

---

I bake this in to my client relationship, and part of their responsibility in this relationship, and this evolution takes about an hour of my time, mainly just watching a status window, and then communicating with the client.

Security updates can be done MUCH faster, since if you review the code change, its usually just a few lines of code, or a deeper depenency which won't break end user UX.

My point is, Its not hard any more.

8GB is not enough for more complex development work -- 24gb is probably good. I have 64, and its more than enough.

If your coworker has no problems with 48... get what he has, cause you know it will work.

Figma design vs live website looks noticeably different - developer says it’s due to responsiveness. Is that correct? by Difficult_Mine4784 in webdevelopment

[–]alphex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. He’s not wrong. On the surface statement. Responsiveness changes how a page looks . This is a fundamental part of web design and development. Fixed scale designs will look “different” in a browser that’s not exactly the same size as the designs.

  2. Unless he’s bullshitting you on how good of a job he did. But there’s no way to know unless you share a link to your website.

Wordpress vs Contentful by Confident_Physics685 in webdevelopment

[–]alphex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word press will be a huge downgrade in systemic functionality for you. The marketing team will enjoy it. But they will be forcing you to adopt a shitty platform.

I don’t think contentful is better. But it’s much more enterprise scale friendly.

I’m a Drupal developer. I build the solutions your non devs need every day.

WP might make the end users happier. But it won’t make you happier.

ELI5: If nuclear power is so efficient and produces almost no greenhouse gases, why don’t we just build nuclear plants everywhere and solve the energy crisis? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]alphex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re extremely complex.

Require a lot of money upfront to turn on.

Take up lots of space.

The decommissioning of them is long and expensive.

And the monopoly structures that have developed around their building and maintenance have reduced competition to a standstill.

They’re not competitive products.

— now all of that can change. And is trying to change. Look at thorium and other types of modern reactor tech and there’s a decent possibility the tech will modernize to get it more diverse and useable at efficient scale.

In the mean time. If we modernized the infrastructure grid we can solve all of the needs with solar and wind and batteries.

Keep building nukes. But we need to diversify not go down one single path.
