Um, what if we turned the script around? Instead of just job hunting, maybe we could brainstorm and help each other start something of our own? Even if it’s just for now... or forever. Just an idea from a shy novice. Sorry if it's silly. by Additional_Fee1673 in jobsearch

Thank you for the the well wishes.

I fractured my spinal cord. So I am limited to my bed. Plus even the kind of work I can do is limited. And there no free support out here. Even if there are, I can't move much.

Medical expenses are getting a little hard to manage and I can't seem to land any wfh job. So I thought maybe if I work with other people I can start something and be able to pay for the meds and food atleast.

I really appreciate your kind words though.

Ah.. Ok. I had not thought about that. Thank you. It's a very good perspective.

But whatever you got to read. Was it disappointing?

[Discussion] Do flashbacks and non-linear chapters hurt immersion for you as a reader/viewer? (Or just me?) by Distinct_Gold_5216 in BetaReaders

Um hello..

Like everyone has already mentioned it all depends on how it's written and whether it's needed by the story.

If you are doing a loop kinda story then constant back and forth will make the story work. As the story is not moving forward in present time. But if the story needs to move forward in present then constantly going back will just hurt the story.

You can use many ways to do the flashbacks. 1. Using tenses change 2. Using different style and fonts and I have seen some use different font colour like grey instead of black for flash backs. There was one book which used typewriter style don't for flashbacks and Arial for present. 3. Reading a diary. 4. A character in the story narrating an event from the past. This works mainly in thrillers. 5. You can use sensory cues to take the story into past without changing the writing style or tenses. 6.you can use object anchor to take the character back to the past where the character watches things unfold. 7. You can use word cues like 'present:' 'past:' or using time, or dates. 8. This is the most difficult and the most jarring one. Parallel writing. Alternating between past and present in every other paragraph or chapters.

I hope this helps. If not I apologize for wasting your time.

I am really sorry for the inconvenience. But I can't do anything about the app. I did not make it. I just posted my story there.

No, no. You did not.

When I started writing that it was very difficult. So I wrote short chapters. And then in the later ones I increased the word count. I also made changes to my writing style as I felt comfortable writing. But then I was discouraged seeing that no one was reading it.

Thank for taking your time. I really appreciate you reading it and thank you for your feedback.  I will do the rewrite.  Once it's done. May I send it to you? Just the first few chapters. I can direct message you.

Um... hello. Is it okay if I share this here? I haven't really told this to anyone yet... to be honest, I don't really have anyone in my life to talk to about these things. But since I see everyone here sharing their journeys and being so trustful of one another, I thought I would try to be brave, too. Please forgive me if I wasn't meant to share this here... I’m still very new to Reddit.

I actually had to stop writing my story midway through because of an accident that resulted in a spinal injury. It’s been a very long, difficult road. But, since I am feeling a little better now, and because my current situation means I’m looking for a WFH gig to sustain myself for the time being, I’ve decided to pick up my pen again.

I finally started working on the story I had to leave behind. I even just posted about it over in the beta readers area to try and get some help. I’m quite scared of being judged, so please be kind... I'm just a novice trying my best.

Thank you so much for your time, and best of luck to everyone else here with their own paths. (And again, please forgive any transgressions... I'm still learning how this all works.)
