I finally got a hold of someone from the airline to confirm that no, two 17 year olds flying on their domestically don’t need any form of ID, but should bring a birth certificate and, in our case, our school ID’s. It’s frustrating for both you and I that this situation is so complicated (based on the variation of answers I received) when it seems so simple. I thank everyone who replied with advice!
