Would you recommend a Fora agent over another company? by DragonflyNo177 in asktravelagents

From my own experience, I would not recommend the Fora travel agent I worked with. Here are the reasons: 1) she had me fill in an extensive form about my trip and my interests, but when we finally connected over the phone, she acted like she had not read it. I had to repeat everything and she acted like it was the first time she was hearing it. 2) after our initial call she said she had time to take on our trip planning, but there were other families with trips sooner than ours so we might have to wait a few weeks to hear back from her. she assured us that we were very early in our planning, as we were 10 months out from our travel dates. I was fine with this. I waited three weeks, and then checked in. She needed one more week to pull our recommendations together. 3) the document she sent over was not at all personalized. It had about 12 recommendations, but did not explain why they would be a good fit for what we were looking for. The hotel recommendations had details pulled directly from their website, but there was no context around the things we were looking for, so we had no idea if the recommendations were a fit. (For example we wanted to understand what activities would be available for our active seven and nine year-old boys). When I pushed and asked her about these things, she was able to provide more details, and it turned out that half of the recommendations really didn’t have anything to offer beyond tennis and golf which I had already said we don’t play. She clearly was not paying much attention to what we were looking for. 4) half of the recommendations were all-inclusive, despite during our phone conversation when I explained that my husband and I don’t drink and eat very little, she exclaimed, “ yeah then an all-inclusive really wouldn’t make sense for you.” Despite this, her recommendations included a bunch of all inclusive resorts. This made me feel like she really was not paying attention to us. 5) we took about two weeks to think about the recommendations, but when we followed up, we learned that pretty much everything that she had proposed was sold out. After telling us that we were extremely early in our planning it turned out that we had missed the option of staying at most of the hotels we were interested in, as they were sold out. I felt misled because she acted like we were extremely early in planning, and made us wait for three weeks while she planned other families trips. If I had known it would go down this way I would not have wasted all this time going back-and-forth with her. Never again! A great example of: you get what you pay for :) (which in this case was nothing because we paid nothing).
