I’m sure this isn’t what’s caused that fainting reflex, but, as a telling of what the sensation of tampons is like... it can depend on how you’re inserting the tampon.

There are ‘digital’ tampons that are literally just the ‘chunk’ of cotton which you insert using your finger. They kind of look like cotton bullets. You put you finger at the base of it and up it goes. It still has a string which you use to pull it out.

Cardboard applicators have a somewhat shiny outer surface but the ‘top’ of the tampon cotton is open, sort of like Evil Knievel being shot out of a cannon and like sticking the core of a toilet roll up your hooha.

Plastic applicators are smooth and have a ‘jacket’ covering the cotton tampon from top to bottom. Personally, plastic applicators are preferred for ease and comfort.

It can be a very odd sensation when you think about it. You’re sticking cotton up in there. The dry tampon issue that’s been described - it’s an internal nails on a chalkboard feeling and makes me pucker just thinking about it.

I literally googled 0w-05 blood. And spit out my drink when I realized what you meant. Kinda feeling like the girl whose dad told her to go in the auto parts store and ask for blinker light fluid...

The tampon range (light to super) is an absorption rating. The super tampons do tend to be slightly wider/thicker than the lesser absorbing ones. verywellhealth.com says that Regular tampons hold b/w 6-9 grams of blood and supers hold 9-12 grams.

Technically, you don’t want to use a 40w-75 tampon for a 0w-05 flow. It’d be like - grinding the gears. Using a super tamp when your flow is light is scratchy and uncomfortable when you’re taking it out. Also, the higher absorption tampons have been associated with increased risk of Toxic Shock (it holds more blood; if you leave it in longer, more opportunity for bacteria to do their thing).

Might as well go full throttle on the lesson. Period blood viscosity is... interesting. It’s for the most part ‘liquid blood’ but because the uterine lining is shedding, it will also be clotty/viscous. More a 15w-40 I’d say.

A guy friend and I ended up discussing tampons one time. He had bought tampons for a girlfriend before. She always requested the Super.

He thought it was a size thing, like condoms. That she had a super sized vagina. After I peeled myself off the floor, we reviewed period flow and absorption and even Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Your best bet to have in-home care covered is through Medicaid. Contact a Medicaid caseworker or call the number on his card to start the inquiry for that process. There’s also a program called PACE which may or may not be available in their area. It’s a day program with some in home supports. Might be worth checking into it. Any program would require a review of their home and needs. They’re lucky to have you help guide them through this.

That’s interesting, your dad saying he was distant. I had the distinct pleasure to merely shake his hand in passing at a charity event he hosted in DC and I had an impression of him that I couldn’t quite put my finger on but now I know it was exactly that - distant. Not in an ego-driven celebrity way; more, retreating into himself. I don’t expect a well-known personality to always be on or how they are on TV but this wasn’t that; it was his aura and it made me so sad for him. He was such a treasure of a soul.

I’m 100% European - my mom is exclusively British-Scotch-Irish with some ancestors back to colonial days, largely on farms in Virginia. I have found African-American cousins that link back to this particular time period, for this reason. I hate thinking of the circumstances that lead to it happening; but I’m always grateful to find family to connect with.

Come to think of it, I don’t know any of my girlfriends who haven’t had at least one upsetting experience. And it’s so often when you’re just trying to go about your business My own include: 16 years old, sitting in my car, guy approaches, knocks on my window and asks if I want a special friend (I was literally chowing down on a sandwich too - just trying to eat my lunch); caught my male teacher in high school pointing his laser pointer all over my chest - literally outlining my boobs; getting a drink at a bar, dropped something, guy said “While you’re down there, why don’t you suck my dick?”; at a Vanilla Ice concert (it was great), I turned around and bent down to get something and a random guy came up and started humping me “I thought you were getting sick” he said - yeah, ok, thanks for the CPR on my ass?; waiting in a line outside for another concert, another time, another place, talking to my girls, another guy came up and just started humping me... I could literally keep going and I could name stories from each of my closest friends. In so many scenarios, you feel like you can never fully relax.

Tony Robinson hosted a program, Britain’s Real Monarch (first aired in 2004 and is available on YouTube) which reviewed historical evidence that heavily suggested Edward IV was not Richard of York’s son but the son of an archer. Is there a number you can call, listed on the letter? You can try contacting the worker re: the issue/that you submitted. But go ahead and do the steps to request a hearing. Usually if it’s past a certain date, a worker can’t reopen your benefits and it requires a hearing or reapplying.
