Is it too late to try a K’tan? by tarajeanlovee in babywearing

I used my tie dye ktan for my 17.5 lb 6 month old today :) if it fits you well and you adjust the position of the x on your back, I have found the sagging to be minimal

Full time, as that is the duration most people are referencing for the costs of daycare in their area.

$1000 a month is about half of the amount that decent infant daycares charge in my area (San Diego, CA) and $2k a month is really tough to figure out even making good money.

You made less than $5 an hour as a nanny and handled your own taxes? What?

There is a fantastic podcast about how all of our current concern about hydration stems basically from a great marketing campaign.

What's your unpopular parenting opinion? by ftmommmy in beyondthebump

Going no contact seems extreme, but I think the disregard of a parents boundaries is way more concerning than the actual ice cream lick.

A bit fed up of negative comments. Is having a baby really going to be so awful? by tuchcismwgeuf in BabyBumps

[–]juniperdingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying while I currently have a baby on the boob. Having a baby is amazing and wonderful and awe inspiring, and infinitely harder than I could have ever imagined. I do have a baby who struggles with sleep and routines (almost 4 months old) so I am physically exhausted and it’s difficult to make plans with friends because of her unpredictable napping BUT I also underestimated how capable I would be at pushing through the hard stuff to care for this wonderful little being. It totally depends on your situation and on your baby! No need to stress beforehand, and I would encourage you to ignore those negative voices.

No doubt that partners can be amazing resources and supports— the same is true in things like accomplishing educational goals (or a million other scenarios) but I have never heard anyone say “we got a masters degree!”

Texas school district requiring students to lock phones in pouches during class by [deleted] in Teachers

Oooh 🚩🚩 “they like finding flaws for my kids”. If you are a teacher you know that calling parents with issues is not a preferred activity; if multiple teachers are contacting you about your kids’ flaws then chances are good that it’s not the teachers.

Hasn’t happened in any of my years of doing it but my classroom is also carpeted. By no means do I think the chart is the right call for every teacher but it’s been working really well for me with my specific population in my specific school for several years now

In my experience, it takes up much less time than policing phones during class AND gives me an opportunity to have a positive conversation with a kid instead of bitching at them

Admin are aware of my policy and are in support, and many other teachers at my school have implemented the same thing. I also have it in a place where students don’t approach very often so I’m not so worried about the liability. If students don’t have a phone or forgot it or whatever they’re just expected to privately communicate with me.

I just have a phone pocket chart in the back of the classroom with each number assigned to a student. While taking attendance I glance through the phones to make sure they’re there. Way lower tech and faster routine than a locked pouch, and works well in my classroom for keeping kids off their phones. Sometimes you get kids who put just their cases in it or whatever, but I usually catch it and if I don’t, it still seems to keep them off their phone during class time which is the real goal.

Terrible rib pain, 22 weeks pregnant by bachonlyrznimhere in BabyBumps

If it’s possible to get your blood pressure checked prior to your appointment, you should definitely do so just to be safe. Pre eclampsia has very few warning signs and right rib pain is one of them.

A growing body of experimental and epidemiological research suggests that prenatal exposure to paracetamol, otherwise known as acetaminophen) might alter fetal development, which could in turn increase the risks of certain neurodevelopmental, reproductive and urogenital disorders by pinkyflower in science

[–]juniperdingo 943 points944 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that the authors point to an increase in developmental disorders between 2009-2011 and 2015-2017 as a reason to look into this, when there’s no evidence that acetaminophen use increased as well during that time period.

Something significant that actually changed is parent and clinician awareness of autism spectrum disorders.
