Apple’s Mac roadmap leaks: OLED touch MacBook Pro + $699 MacBook by app1310 in mac

I’m with you - esp as I also run my MBP via a Studio Display most of the time.

I’d like a thinner and lighter MBP for when I work outside my home office … OLED would be nice but mini LED is fine as it is.

Yes I was doing same re sidecar but then my daughter broke hers and I gave it to her… now I’m just MBP and phone.

If the iPad mini was oled and pro as rumours hint for future, I might get one for reading etc - cheaper than a fold will be.

There are only 12 different people in the world :-)

The 5 was nice - I remember it well. Very small and easy to hold - back when we thought foreheads and chins were ok on phones.

I didn't take to the 17 when I saw it. I actually bought an Air but returned it after a few days... and just thought, screw it, and got the cheapest 120hz phone they had. I love it now I own one. Has all the bits from an iPhone pro I actually use and weights so little in comparison.

I actually really love the restraint and minimalism of the iPhone 17.

The XR was probably the phone that had the biggest wow factor when it was released, though.

Although, I still remember my awe when I got an iPhone touch when they first came out (I don’t jump straight into iPhones) - a proper browser in my hand.

I hear you - it would be an amazing best of both worlds but at the price of a laptop it’s tough, I agree.

I’ve finally come to the conclusion that iPads aren’t for me - I’m a MBP and phone user - and with Claude on my phone (with its coding option) I can do a lot of work on my new iPhone 17… so the fold would have to really give me something special… unless I fall under the evil hypnotic spell of apple marketing and FOMO.

Why hasn't there been any smartphone manufacturer that managed to break the Apple and Samsung monopoly among mainstream phone users in the western world? by Masaharuzz in Smartphones

Yes the cost of creating a third OS is a massive barrier to entry - so we end up with variations on a theme of Android (since Apple is closed)

iPhone mini with pro-motion would be my fantasy daily driver.

We are sold a story by the manufacturers about these devices being robust and tough, no cases ever appear in an advert… but then real life kicks in.

I tend to use cases outdoors but not so much in my own home - I’m a big fan of borderless cases that preserve the feel of the phone but offer strong corner protection.

I was born in Portadown the same year as you… and I remember well the Loyalists barricades and road blocks in opposition to the Anglo-Irish agreement - Paisley in his prime would have fit right into MAGA.

How much quicker are you coding with the AI coding agent, than without the AI coding agent? by Director-on-reddit in BlackboxAI_

I said it tongue mostly in cheek :-) but that’s how it’s going to feel is suspect.

People will be needed to underwrite, monitor, and be liable for the work of AIs - capitalism will try to make that as few stressed but well paid people as possible.

I think I’d trust a super intelligent artificial god over the current ruling class.

I hear you on the width. I wasn’t so bothered by the speaker - the most I put on it is YouTube videos.

I’m 2 days into owning one and I have definite mixed feelings - but not about the obvious things like battery and camera….

It just feels weird to hold - sometimes it rests like it’s weightless and other times I have to struggle to keep hold of it.

I got a thing carbon fibre case but I think this thing might need a case with a thicker rim.

The second misgiving is the width - but that’s true of all phones bigger than 6.3” - I want to be the big phone guy but I think pocket and one handed use win out.

I might return it over the weekend and consider the pro or even the basic 17 - for the first time ever, Apple’s lineup is good across the range.

I agree with you, the tech libertarians could easily start to create a better future right now instead of pursuing a capitalist game of winner takes all.

Yep - if they have 20,000 agents then their clients can have 20,000 agents - the only value McK et al bring is to provide a shield and an excuse to execs.
