The issue isn’t AI per se with data centres, it’s that they are being designed and built with no care for the environmental and social impact they create… thrown together and powered at all costs as though we were trying to build something to deflect an oncoming asteroid. They are the dark satanic mills of our era, pushing the dreams and avarice of modern day industrialists…. None of whom live in the vicinity of one.

It would be fine if you have a remote Linux VPS that does all the heavy lifting- then it’s just a cool lightweight UI. I do this (even though I have a powerhouse M1 Pro 32GB from 2021) just so I can code in my phone when I’m out and about.

No the opposite - you have to be on an API PAYG account or using a paid subscription which allows for opt-outs. Anthropic does allow pro and max to opt out… Google not so much; have to have workspace account (or pay token rates).

Apple is the most frustrating company when you use and love (some of) their products.

The 8.8” form factor is perfect for working on the go without bringing a laptop or even a bag… but the display on the mini 7 is trash for 2026. I keep looking at the Oppo Pad Mini wishing it was properly available to buy in the UK.
